If you purchased a Summerset smoker box and would like to add natural wood flavor smoke to your recipes, then you’ve come to the right place. There are various ways to prepare your chips and there is no wrong or right technique. If you follow these simple guidelines you can experiment and find your preferred method of smoking wood chips. To get started, choose the technique that fits best into your cooking style.
Technique #1: Place a handful of dry, wood chips into the smoker box.
Technique #2: Place a handful of wood chips in water, wine, beer or favorite liquor and then allow the chips to soak for at least 1/2 hour prior to cooking.
Technique #3: Place a handful of wood chips into a small freezer bag, add water and place into your freezer. Once frozen, simply add them into your smoker box. No need to thaw.
Once your wood chips are prepared and ready to be smoked, fill the smoker box if haven’t already done so. The smoker box fits securely above the briquette tray and below the grate. Remove the grate, place the smoker box on the grate ledges, and replace the grates.
You can now ignite your grill and preheat to 450 degrees F. Smell that? That’s smoke… coming from your grill… like a pro. Enjoy!
