How does the prep and waste chute work?
The poly cutting board slides up to expose a trash chute underneath. You prep on the board, slide it back, and push scraps straight down the opening instead of walking them to a bin.
That is the whole point of the unit: it keeps the trim, peels and bones off your counter while you are still working.
How much island space does it take?
This is Alfresco's 10-inch chute, so plan the opening around a 10-inch-wide unit. The model code is APWC.
Pull Alfresco's APWC spec sheet and frame to the dimensions on it before any masonry or cabinetry is fixed in place.
What is the cutting board made of?
Poly, not wood. It gives you a chopping surface that takes daily knife work and wipes down cleanly, which is what you want on a board that doubles as the lid over a trash opening.
Is the housing stainless steel?
Yes. The chute body is stainless steel, which is why it can be built into an outdoor island and left there through the seasons rather than being brought inside.
Does this drop into an island, or can it sit on a counter?
It is a built-in component. The chute needs an opening cut for it so that waste has somewhere to fall, which means it belongs in an island or cabinet run rather than on top of a finished surface.
Plan for access underneath as well, since you will be reaching in to deal with whatever the chute drops.
