Side Burners Over $2000

An outdoor kitchen side burner is a separate gas burner installed alongside your grill. It allows you to cook sauces, boil water, sauté vegetables, heat side dishes, and prepare other foods without using valuable space on the main grill.

Side burners can handle many of the same tasks as an indoor stovetop, including simmering sauces, boiling pasta, cooking vegetables, heating beans, frying foods, and preparing side dishes while grilling.

A single side burner provides one cooking zone and is a good choice for basic sauces and side dishes — the Coyote 12" single side burner C3SB and the Summerset SB1 are typical examples. A double side burner provides two independently controlled burners, allowing you to prepare multiple dishes at the same time, as with the Coyote C3DB or the TrueFlame TFSB2.

A power burner is a high-output outdoor burner designed for cooking tasks requiring substantially more heat than a traditional side burner. Power burners are popular for boiling large pots of water, seafood boils, wok cooking, and other high-heat applications. The RCS Cutlass Pro RSB3A and the TrueFlame TFPB both include a wok-friendly grate and heavy stainless construction, and the Alfresco Versa Power 24" AXEVP pairs dual burners in a single wide cutout.

Standard side burners commonly provide enough output for everyday stovetop-style cooking, while power burners can produce significantly higher heat. As a rough guide, a single side burner such as the Coyote C3SB is rated at 15,000 BTUs, a double like the TrueFlame TFSB2 around 24,000 BTUs, and a power burner such as the Artisan 18" ARTP-18PB around 55,000 BTUs. The right BTU output depends on whether you primarily want to simmer sauces or cook with large pots and high temperatures.

Choose the same fuel type used by the rest of your outdoor kitchen whenever possible. Natural gas provides a permanent fuel supply, while propane offers flexibility when a natural gas connection isn't available. Make sure the burner is configured and approved for your chosen fuel, the same way you would for a natural gas or propane grill.

Yes. Side burners are commonly installed beside built-in grills, but you must follow the manufacturer's required clearances, cutout dimensions, ventilation requirements, and installation instructions.

An insulating jacket may be required when a side burner is installed in an island containing combustible materials. Burner jackets are model-specific — the TrueFlame insulating liner for the TFSB2 is one example, and you can browse the full range of insulating liners and jackets. Requirements vary by manufacturer and burner model, so always check the installation manual before constructing the island.

Potentially, but additional protection such as a manufacturer-approved insulated jacket may be required. Never assume a built-in burner can be installed directly into wood or other combustible construction.

Cutout dimensions vary by manufacturer and model. Always use the exact manufacturer's specifications for your burner rather than estimating the opening based on the product's overall dimensions.

A traditional side burner is designed for everyday cooking such as sauces, vegetables, and smaller pots. A power burner typically offers much higher heat output and a larger cooking area for stock pots, seafood boils, wok cooking, and other demanding applications — compare the American Made Grills Estate double side burner ESTSB2 against the Estate power burner ESTPB2 from the same series.

A side burner functions more like a traditional stovetop burner. A sear burner is designed to produce intense heat for searing steaks and other proteins, as with the ceramic infrared Alfresco Sear Zone AXESZ. Some specialty burners can perform multiple functions, so check the individual model's specifications.

Many side burners do not require a dedicated electrical connection for basic operation, although models with electronic ignition, LED controls, or other powered features may require electricity — the Sunstone Ruby Series 13" Companion Pro SUN13CPRO with LED controls is one example. Check the product specifications before planning your outdoor kitchen utilities.

Gas-burning appliances require proper ventilation and must be installed according to manufacturer requirements and applicable codes. Propane is heavier than air, making proper low-level ventilation especially important in an enclosed outdoor kitchen island. If the burner sits under a covered structure, an outdoor vent hood may also be required.

Yes, provided you have sufficient space, the correct gas supply, proper ventilation, and a suitable installation location. You'll also need to confirm that the existing countertop and island can accommodate the required cutout. Compact drop-in models such as the Bonfire Whistler single drop-in side burner are often the easiest retrofit.

Not necessarily. You can mix brands as long as each appliance is installed according to its specifications. However, choosing the same brand or product series can provide a more consistent appearance across handles, lids, stainless steel finishes, and control knobs.

Stainless steel side burners are widely used for premium outdoor cooking equipment because of its durability and corrosion resistance. For permanent outdoor kitchens, 304 stainless steel is particularly desirable for components regularly exposed to weather and heat.

Place the burner where it provides convenient cooking access without interfering with the grill, prep area, or traffic flow. Your layout must also maintain all manufacturer-required clearances from combustible surfaces and other appliances.

For people who frequently cook complete meals outdoors, a side burner can be one of the most useful additions. It lets you prepare sauces, sides, and stovetop dishes without repeatedly going between the outdoor kitchen and indoor kitchen.

Consider the number of burners, BTU output, available cutout space, fuel type, construction quality, and the type of cooking you plan to do. For everyday sides and sauces, a standard single or double burner is usually sufficient. For large pots and high-heat cooking, consider a power burner. It also helps to shop by tier: side burners under $1,000 cover most everyday needs, the $1,000–$2,000 range adds heavier construction and higher output, and premium side and power burners sit above that.
