What does dual zone actually mean on this cooler?
It has two independently controlled temperature zones in one cabinet, so reds and whites can be held at different temperatures at the same time. The upper zone runs 41 to 50 degrees Fahrenheit and the lower zone runs 50 to 64 degrees.
That split is the reason to choose a dual zone unit over a single zone one: you are not compromising on a single average temperature.
Can this be installed outdoors?
Yes. It is UL rated for outdoor use, which is not the case for an indoor wine fridge of similar size. Outdoor rating covers the electrical build as well as the finish.
Can it go into an outdoor kitchen island?
It is front vented, which is what allows a built-in installation. A rear-vented cooler needs air space behind it and will overheat if you enclose it in cabinetry.
Confirm the exact opening in your island against the manufacturer's cutout specification before you frame it in.
Does the door lock?
Yes, the door locks. That is worth having on a unit that sits outside in an entertaining area rather than in a closed kitchen.
What is the door made of?
A 304 stainless steel door frame with tinted glass. The tint cuts the light reaching the bottles while still letting you see what is in there.
How do I set the temperature?
Digital temperature control, set separately for each of the two zones. You are dialling in a number rather than moving a dial between vague settings.
What is the anti-vibration system for?
Vibration disturbs sediment and, over time, affects wine that is being stored rather than just chilled. The anti-vibration system isolates the compressor so the bottles sit still.
Is it approved for commercial use as well as residential?
It is compliant for both residential and commercial settings. If this is going into a bar, restaurant patio or clubhouse rather than a backyard, that rating is the one to check.
