Bonfire FAQs

NorthwoodsGrills is a family-owned outdoor kitchen retailer in Charleston, South Carolina, and an authorized Bonfire dealer. We do not manufacture grills. Below are straight answers to the questions we get about the Bonfire line. To talk to a person, call 843-212-7209.

Who makes Bonfire grills?

Bonfire outdoor gas grills are made by Bonfire Production Corp, which maintains a business address in Ontario, California. The brand's consumer-facing presence runs under both the Bonfire and Whistler Outdoor Living names, which is why you will see the same grill described two ways depending on where you are looking.

Where are Bonfire grills made?

Bonfire Production Corp does not publish a country-of-manufacture statement, so we do not make one. The Ontario, California address is a business office; it is not a stated factory location, and we will not imply otherwise. If origin matters to your purchase, call 843-212-7209 and we will tell you exactly what the manufacturer's documentation does and does not say.

Is Bonfire the same brand as Whistler Grills in the UK?

No. Whistler Grills Limited is an unrelated UK company with entirely different products, different specifications and a different warranty. If you found a warranty document or a manual for a UK Whistler grill, it does not apply to your Bonfire. Use the Bonfire Production Corp terms below.

What is the "Prime 500," and what model number should I look for?

This trips up a lot of shoppers, so here is the plain version. "Prime 500" is a dealer name, not a manufacturer series name. The manufacturer designates that grill CBB500. We list it as the Prime 500 because that is the name customers search for, but if you are cross-referencing a manual, a parts diagram or a warranty claim, CBB500 is the number that matters.

The manufacturer's own naming uses Whistler plus a plain size-and-burner description. The model numbers to know:

  • CBB3 — three-burner built-in
  • CBB4 — four-burner built-in
  • CBB500 — five-burner built-in (listed here as Prime 500)
  • CBBGD — built-in griddle
  • CBF prefix — freestanding cart models

Component model numbers follow a CBA prefix — side burners, doors, drawers and burner upgrades.

Which Bonfire grills can I buy?

Built-in grill heads for island installations:

Freestanding carts, for anyone not building an island:

See them all in Bonfire Built-In Grills and Bonfire Cart Grills, or browse the full Bonfire collection.

What is the Black Series?

The Black Series is the black stainless finish version of the same grills and components, for people matching a darker island or a modern build. It covers grills and the full component set, including the Whistler 4 Black Stainless 32" Built-In, the Whistler 500 Prime Black Series 42" Built-In and the Whistler Black Elite 32" Cart Grill. If you go black, order your doors and drawers in the matching finish at the same time — mixing finishes later is the regret we hear most.

Does a Bonfire run on propane or natural gas?

Per the manufacturer, valves are preset at the factory for LP (propane). Check the individual product listing for the configuration being sold, because we stock both fuel setups across the line. You can also filter by fuel in Natural Gas Built-In Grills and Propane Built-In Grills.

How do I convert a Bonfire between propane and natural gas?

You do not do it yourself. The manufacturer's instruction is to contact your dealer, a licensed plumber or an authorized service center to perform the conversion. A conversion tool ships with the product, but a qualified technician is still required to perform the conversion. Improper conversion voids the warranty and can cause serious injury. If you are unsure which fuel you have at the install location, call us at 843-212-7209 before you order rather than after.

What is the Bonfire warranty?

Bonfire Production Corp warranty coverage, as the manufacturer states it, runs in three tiers:

  • Lifetime, for as long as you are the original owner — cast stainless steel burners, stainless steel cooking grates and stainless steel housing.
  • Three years — cast brass side burner, stainless steel burners, infrared back burner, knobs, brass valves, drip pans, tamers and warming rack.
  • One year — the outdoor gas grill, all component parts, the ignition system (excluding batteries) and electronic components including lights and thermometers.

Full terms are on our Bonfire Warranty page and our general Warranty Information page. Buying from an authorized dealer is what keeps that coverage intact.

How do I clean and maintain a Bonfire gas grill?

These are gas grills, so treat them as such. Run the burners on high for a few minutes after cooking to burn off residue, let the grates cool enough to handle safely, then brush them. Pull and clean the grease tray on a regular schedule — that is the part people forget and the part that causes flare-ups. Periodically check the burner ports for blockage and wipe the stainless exterior with the grain using a cleaner made for stainless.

Two things not to do: there is no ash tray to empty, because nothing here burns charcoal, and you should not be oiling the cooking grates as a seasoning ritual. Both are charcoal-grill habits that do not belong on a gas grill. A fitted cover is the highest-value maintenance item you can buy — see Grill Covers.

What Bonfire accessories and outdoor kitchen components are available?

Where does Bonfire sit on price, and what should I cross-shop?

Bonfire competes in the accessible end of the 304 stainless built-in market. It is the brand we point people toward when they want a real stainless built-in with cast burners without stepping into premium pricing. Shop by budget in entry-tier built-in grills and mid-tier built-ins, or on carts, entry-tier cart grills and mid-tier cart grills.

Worth comparing directly: Summerset and Blaze at a similar tier, and Coyote a step up. We carry all of them and get paid either way, so ask us bluntly.

Why buy your Bonfire from NorthwoodsGrills?

We are an authorized dealer, so your unit is new and your factory warranty is valid. Shipping is free and we add no credit card fees. We are a family business in Charleston, and you reach a person at 843-212-7209. See our Price Guarantee and Shipping pages.

How to Choose

How to Build Your Outdoor Kitchen with Bonfire Start with your main grill. Bonfire offers built-in models that drop into an island as well as freestanding cart grills you can roll into place, in sizes from 28 inches up to 42 inches with three to five burners, infrared searing, and rotisserie options. Choose built-in if you are designing a permanent island, or a cart grill for flexibility. Next, add cooking power and versatility. Bonfire side burners give you extra room for sauces, sides, and high-heat tasks, while griddles are perfect for breakfast, smash burgers, and flat-top cooking. Match the fuel type to your grill, and confirm cutout dimensions for built-in units. Then build out storage and finish the island. Bonfire access doors, drawers, cabinets, and combo units in 304 stainless steel let you organize tanks, tools, and supplies and give your outdoor kitchen a clean, finished look. Add rotisserie kits, smoker boxes, and trash cans to complete the setup. Finally, buy with confidence. Bonfire delivers rugged stainless steel construction at an approachable price, and as an authorized Bonfire dealer, NorthwoodsGrills carries only authentic units backed by full manufacturer warranties, with free shipping and secure checkout.

Expert Advice

Pro tip: Start by choosing your main grill (built-in for a permanent island, or a cart model for flexibility), then build outward with matching side burners, griddles, doors, drawers, and cabinets for a cohesive outdoor kitchen. Confirm your fuel type (natural gas or propane) and check cutout dimensions on each product page before ordering built-in components.
