Indoor units are built on the assumption that the air around them stays roughly the same temperature all year.

Two things are worth knowing before you specify one:

• Outdoor rated means covered outdoor areas. U-Line specifies its outdoor products for use in a covered outdoor space — under a roof, pergola with solid cover, or similar. Check the User Guide for the model you're considering.
• An indoor unit outdoors is a false economy. U-Line advises against it directly: putting an indoor appliance outside will shorten its life, and it can affect warranty coverage. The price gap between an indoor and outdoor model is smaller than the cost of replacing one in three summers.
