The Primo Cast Iron Firebox Divider for the Oval Junior is a single cast iron piece that splits the Junior's firebox, so you can build a fire in one section and leave the rest of the box empty.

Small cooks are where it earns its place. Lighting a whole firebox to grill a couple of burgers burns charcoal you did not need and leaves a grill that stays hot long after you are done eating. Wall off part of the box and you light a smaller load, reach cooking temperature sooner and use less fuel. The empty side becomes a real cool zone as well — somewhere to move food that is browning too quickly, or to park cooked pieces while the rest catch up. Cast iron sits in a live fire without fuss, which is why the part is made from it.

Pair it with the Primo Half Drip Pan Oval Junior on the cool side, or with the Primo Heat Deflector Plates for Oval Junior if you want fully shielded heat rather than a two-zone fire. The Primo cast iron searing grate for the Oval Junior goes over the burning half for a hard sear. Built for the Primo Oval Junior ceramic charcoal grill.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does a firebox divider actually do?

It splits the firebox into sections so you can light charcoal in one part and leave the other empty. That gives you a hot zone and a cool zone on the same grate, and it stops you burning a full load of fuel for a cook that only needs a small fire.

Will this divider fit my Primo Oval Junior?

Yes, it is cut for the Oval Junior firebox and fits that model. Dividers are size-specific because each Primo firebox has its own dimensions, so the Junior part belongs in a Junior and nowhere else in the range.

Do I need a divider to cook two-zone?

Not strictly, but it makes the arrangement hold. You can bank coals to one side by hand and they will drift and spread as the fire burns down. A divider keeps the fire where you put it for the length of the cook, which matters most on longer sessions.

Is there a firebox divider for the Primo Round?

Not in this store. Cast iron firebox dividers are listed here for the Oval Junior, Large, X-Large and XX-Large only. On a Round, the equivalent move is to bank your charcoal to one side by hand and use the deflector rack for shielded heat.

How many pieces come with this listing?

One. The Oval Junior divider is a single cast iron piece, so a single part in the box is the complete item. The two-piece counts elsewhere in this range belong to the deflector plates and the deflector racks rather than to the dividers, which is worth keeping straight if you are ordering several parts together.
