The Primo Heat Deflector Rack/Drip Pan Rack for the Oval XX-Large is the frame for indirect cooking on the largest Primo Oval. It carries a heat deflector plate or a drip pan above the fire. Both of those are separate purchases, and the rack by itself does not block heat.
The XX-Large is the size people buy to cook for a crowd, and that is exactly when a fixed support earns its keep. A barrier held steady across the firebox means the food at one end of the grate is not cooking at a different rate to the food at the other. A pan on the same frame catches everything that renders out of a full load, which matters more here than on a small grill simply because there is more of it.

Will this rack fit my Primo Oval XX-Large?
Yes, it is made for the Oval XX-Large and fits that grill only. Every Primo size takes its own rack because the fireboxes differ, so a rack from a smaller Oval will not span the XX-Large properly. Match the size name on the listing to the grill you own.
Does this rack include a heat deflector plate?
No. You are buying the frame. The plate that actually blocks heat from the fire is sold on its own as the Primo Heat Deflector Plates for Oval XX-Large. A rack with nothing on it will not turn the grill into an indirect cooker, which catches people out.
What do I put on the rack?
A deflector plate for indirect and low-temperature cooking, or a drip pan to collect fat and juices under a roast. Plenty of cooks use both together, with the pan sitting above the barrier so grease never lands on a hot plate.
Do I need this rack to cook indirect on the XX-Large?
You need something to hold the barrier above the fire, and on the XX-Large this rack is that part. It is the foundation of the indirect setup: rack first, then the plate, then a pan if you want one, then the food.
Can I use an X-Large rack in an XX-Large grill?
No. The XX-Large firebox is its own size and the X-Large frame will not sit correctly in it. Using an undersized rack leaves the barrier unsupported, which is a bad idea with a live fire underneath. Buy the rack named for your grill.
