Heat deflector plates are what stand between the coals and the food in a Primo Oval X-Large, and this listing is the two-piece set for that size. Both pieces are in the box, and they suit the Oval X-Large firebox only.
Blocking the fire's direct line does two jobs at once. It stops the underside of the food racing ahead of the top, and it lets the grill settle at a low, even temperature instead of climbing. That is the setup behind every long cook — pork shoulder, beef ribs, a turkey — and it is what baking wants too, since a stone over an open fire will scorch the base of a pizza well before the top has set.
The plates need the Primo Heat Deflector Rack/Drip Pan Rack for Oval X-Large to sit on, which is sold on its own, and the Primo Half Drip Pan Oval X-Large goes above them to catch fat. For bread and pizza work, the Primo Oval Fredstone baking stone for the Oval X-Large gives you a cooking surface once the fire is running indirect. Fits the Primo Oval X-Large ceramic charcoal grill and the Oval X-Large Jack Daniel's Edition.

Frequently Asked Questions
Will these deflector plates fit my Primo Oval X-Large?
Yes, this set is made for the Oval X-Large. Deflector plates are size-specific across the Primo range because each firebox is a different shape, so plates from another model will not sit flat. Buy the set named for the grill you own and fit is not something you have to think about again.
Is this one plate or a pair?
A pair. The title says two-piece and that is exactly what arrives: two plates that together form the barrier over the Oval X-Large firebox. Using both gives you full indirect heat; using one leaves part of the fire open if you want a hot zone alongside a cool one.
Do I need the heat deflector rack as well?
Yes, if you do not already own it. The rack is the frame that holds the plates clear of the coals, and it is a separate listing from the plates themselves. For this grill that is the Primo Heat Deflector Rack/Drip Pan Rack for Oval X-Large.
Can I use these for baking and pizza on the X-Large?
That is one of the better reasons to own them. Baking on charcoal falls apart if the fire radiates straight onto the underside of the food, so the deflector goes in first and the baking surface goes above it. Bread, pies and pizza all behave once the heat is indirect.
Will an Oval Large deflector plate work in an X-Large?
No. The Large plates are cut for the Large firebox and will not seat correctly in the X-Large, which leaves gaps for heat to shoot through and undoes the point of fitting them. Match the plate to the grill size every time.
Let customers speak for us
I absolutely love my Coyote gas grill! The quality is excellent, it looks beautiful, and I’m very happy with my purchase.
I also want to give a special thank you to Ryan at Northwoods Grills. He was incredibly helpful from the very beginning. Before my grill even arrived, he took the time to help me with measurements and answered all of my questions to make sure everything would fit properly. He was always very attentive, patient, friendly, and easy to communicate with. His customer service really made a difference and made the whole experience so much easier for me.
It’s not often that you receive this level of personal attention and customer service. I truly appreciate all of Ryan’s help and would absolutely recommend Northwoods Grills. Great product and outstanding customer service!

Best pricing available for the product (checked all other on line retailers), and Ryan provided excellent responsiveness during the sales process. Loved dealing directly with the owner vs a sales person.
Delivery was completed within a week of the order and Ryan stayed in touch with consistent follow-up to ensure the products met my expectations.
Will recommend to friends / others looking for a high-end built in grill and matching cabinets.
