The Primo Oval Basket for Rotisserie attaches to a Primo rotisserie and holds food that cannot be skewered or spitted. There is no size in the title because it fits the rotisserie rather than a firebox, so the part that has to match your grill is the rotisserie kit.

Rotisserie baskets solve a problem grates cannot. Anything small, round or awkward tends to fall through bars, stick to them or need endless turning with tongs, and a basket takes all of that off your hands by keeping the contents in slow, continuous motion over the fire. Food self-turns, browning arrives evenly across the whole load, fat and marinade keep circulating rather than draining to one side, and you can leave the lid closed instead of standing over the grill. Set a pan below to catch what drips out, particularly with anything fatty.

Requires a rotisserie for your grill, such as the Primo Oval XX-Large rotisserie kit or the Primo Round rotisserie kit. It sits alongside the Primo 3-sided rotisserie basket and the Primo kebab holder as the three accessories built around the rotisserie.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a particular size of Primo grill for this basket?

No, because it does not mount to the grill. It rides on the rotisserie, which is the part that is size specific, so the thing to check is that you own the rotisserie kit listed for your grill. The basket then works regardless of which size that is.

Can I use it without a rotisserie?

It will not do its job. The whole design depends on being turned continuously, which is what browns the food evenly and keeps it basted in its own juices. Sitting still on a grate it is just an awkward container, so the rotisserie kit is a prerequisite rather than an optional extra.

What should I put in it?

Loose food that would otherwise need constant attention: wings, chunks of chicken thigh, sausages, halved peppers, mushrooms, potato pieces, even nuts if you are careful. Ingredients that cook at roughly the same rate work best, since everything in the basket is over the fire for the same length of time.

Should I use a drip pan with it?

With fatty food, yes. Rendering fat falling onto burning charcoal flares up and throws bitter smoke over everything above it. A pan below catches the drips before they reach the coals and makes the grill considerably easier to clean afterwards.

How is this different from the 3-sided basket?

Shape, which is what the two titles tell you and as far as the published information goes. Both are rotisserie baskets for loose food and both mount on the same rotisserie. Choosing between them comes down to which form suits what you cook, not to any performance claim we can make.
