Memphis Built-In Pellet Grill Replacement: Older Pro and Elite Models and Their Current Match

If your Memphis Pro or Elite built-in pellet grill was made from 2013 on, including the ITC2 Wi-Fi models, today's Memphis Pro or Elite ITC3 built-in uses the same published island opening. Memphis has kept the same model numbers across generations and prints the same cutout for each. The main difference is the controller: older built-ins had a separate controller box set into the island, and the ITC3 does not. Built-ins from 2011 and 2012 have a smaller opening that has to be enlarged.

How to read this page

Status What it means
Confirmed same-opening replacement Memphis kept the same model number for the old and current grill (VGB0001 for the Pro, VGB0002 for the Elite) and prints the identical cutout width, depth and height for both in its own manuals and product pages. An installer should still check your opening.
Same published opening The published openings match in all three dimensions, but it is a different Memphis model.
Dimensional candidate The opening differs in at least one dimension, so it has to be enlarged. The note says by how much.
Not covered We could not read the original figure from a Memphis document.

All figures are inches, written width × depth × height, where height is the depth of the opening below the counter. Memphis built-ins are pellet grills: they hang in the opening on mounting brackets, so the opening is deeper and taller than a gas grill's.

Which Memphis do you have?

Read the model number and serial number from the grill's label. The Pro built-in is model VGB0001 (VGB0001S on later grills) and the Elite built-in is VGB0002 (VGB0002S). Memphis splits its installation manuals by serial number, and the serial number decides which opening your island was built for:

  • 2011 Pro in 430 stainless (serials 1501–1675) and 2012 Elite (serials 1498–3399): original controller. The 2011 Pro and the Elite from serial 1534 have smaller openings.
  • 2013 Pro in 304 stainless and Elite from serial 3400: original controller, the current opening size.
  • ITC2 Pro and Elite (serial 5000 on, about 2016–2021): Wi-Fi controller in a prewired box, the current opening size.
  • ITC3 Pro and Elite (serial 30000 on): today's models, with the controller on the grill.

Memphis's product pages list an overall grill width (for example 28 inches for the Pro) that is smaller than the cutout width. The grill hangs on brackets inside the opening rather than resting on the counter, so go by the cutout, not the overall width.

The old controller box

The original and ITC2 built-ins used a controller in a separate box mounted in the island front, in its own small cutout (about 8 × 5 inches on the 2011 Pro, 8¼ × 4 on the 2012–2013 models and 8½ × 6½ on the ITC2). The ITC3 has its controls on the grill, and its installation sheet shows no controller cutout. When you replace an older grill with an ITC3, that cavity is left empty, so plan for a blank cover plate or a small access door over it.

A lower-cost option for a Pro-size opening

The Memphis Elevate built-in has the same published opening as the Pro, 30¼ × 24½ × 16¾. It is a different, lower-priced Memphis model, so we list it as the same published opening rather than a direct replacement. Memphis's manual pairs the Elevate grill with a separate built-in bracket (MG11-06-001); ask us to confirm what is included before you order.

Before you order

  • Read the model and serial number from the label: the serial number decides which opening you have.
  • Measure the opening: width at the front and back, depth, and height below the counter.
  • Check the electrical supply: Memphis built-ins need a dedicated GFCI-protected 120V circuit, as the installation manual specifies.
  • Check clearances if the island is built from combustible materials. Memphis offers an optional built-in heat shield kit (VGBHSK) that reduces the clearance needed; ask us about it.
  • Keep the vent holes on the mounting brackets clear, as Memphis requires.

Get help with your Memphis replacement

Send us the old model number from the rating label, your measured opening (width at the front and back, depth, and height to the first thing below the counter), your serial number, and what the island is built from. Use the fit help form or call 843-212-7209. We are a retailer: installation must be confirmed by a qualified installer against the manufacturer's current instructions.

FAQ

Will a new Memphis Pro fit my old Memphis Pro opening?

If your Pro was made from 2013 on, including the ITC2, yes on Memphis's published figures: the current Pro ITC3 uses the same 30¼ × 24½ × 16¾ opening under the same model number. The 2011 Pro in 430 stainless has a smaller opening that has to be enlarged.

Will the current Memphis Elite fit my 2012 Elite?

Elites with serial numbers 1534–3399 have an opening 23½ inches deep, 1 inch shallower than today's 24½, so the opening must be deepened. From serial 3400 the opening matches the current Elite ITC3.

What do I do with the old controller cutout?

The ITC3 has its controls on the grill, so the old controller cavity in the island front is no longer used. An installer can fit a blank cover plate or a small access door over it.

Does a Memphis built-in need an insulated jacket?

Memphis does not make an insulated jacket for its built-ins. For combustible islands it offers an optional heat shield kit that reduces the clearance required; follow the clearances in the installation manual.
