That gap between the 36" name and the 33 3/8" cutout is deliberate: the nominal figure describes the finished face, and the frame overlaps the opening on each side, which is why the published cutout is the number to hand your island builder. Both leaves are 304 stainless steel, the grade Artisan uses across its outdoor kitchen line for corrosion resistance and easy cleaning, finished to match an Artisan grill sitting in the same island. Neither door latches; magnetic closures hold them shut, so opening and closing is a straight push and pull.

Width and height are the only cutout figures Artisan publishes for these doors, because they mount in the island face and the cavity depth behind them is set by your framing. If you plan to keep a propane tank or a bin back there, the 33 3/8" opening is not the constraint — confirm the depth and height of the cavity against what you intend to store. Check both cutout figures on the spec sheet linked above before the island is built or an existing opening is enlarged. If you need a wider bay, the ARTP-42DD takes a 39 3/8" cutout; the 32" and 30" models take 29 3/8" and 27 1/4" respectively, all sharing the 18 1/2" height.
