Alfresco Built-In Grill Replacement: Older ALX2 and AGBQ Models and Their Current Match

If your Alfresco built-in grill is an ALX2 or an AGBQ, today's Alfresco ALXE of the same size uses exactly the same countertop opening. Alfresco's own cutout sheets give the identical width, depth and height for the old and current models and list the same insulated-jacket opening alongside both. This page records those openings and shows which current Alfresco matches each older model.

How to read this page

Status What it means
Confirmed same-opening replacement The manufacturer publishes the identical cutout width, depth and height for the old and current model and links them in its own documents (the same liner or jacket listing). An installer should still check your opening.
Same published opening The published openings match in all three dimensions, but no manufacturer document links the two models directly.
Dimensional candidate Close, but one dimension differs or is unresolved. The note says what to check.
No current match Nothing we sell fits the old opening without rebuilding it.

All figures are inches, written width × depth × height.

Which Alfresco do you have?

The model number is on the rating label, usually inside the access door or on the drip-tray frame. Alfresco's oldest built-ins were the AGBQ series (30, 42 and 56 inches; there was no 36-inch AGBQ). The ALX2 series followed (30, 36, 42 and 56 inches, including SZ sear-zone and BFG versions), then today's ALXE. Model numbers ending in C are cart grills, not built-ins. Alfresco still publishes parts manuals for AGBQ and ALX2 grills, split by serial number.

Older Alfresco built-ins and their current match

If your island has an Alfresco insulated jacket

Alfresco's older and current cutout sheets give the same jacket openings: 33¼, 39¼, 45¼ and 59¼ inches wide (30, 36, 42 and 56-inch grills), all 24⅝ deep and 11¼ high. So a jacketed ALX2 or AGBQ island already has the opening the current ALXE jacket needs. Whether your existing jacket can be reused depends on its condition and Alfresco's current instructions; the jackets Alfresco lists for the AIPG grills carry a -01 suffix, and we have not seen Alfresco confirm those for older installations.

Before you order

  • Read the model number from the rating label rather than going by size.
  • Measure the opening: width at the front and back, depth, and height to the first thing below the counter.
  • Check fuel: natural gas and propane are separate configurations.
  • The ALXE and AIPG grills need a 120V outlet for lights and ignition; confirm the outlet location against the installation manual.

Get help with your Alfresco replacement

Send us the old model number from the rating label, your measured opening (width at the front and back, depth, and height to the first thing below the counter), whether there is a liner or jacket, what the island is built from, and your fuel. Use the fit help form or call 843-212-7209. We are a retailer: installation must be confirmed by a qualified installer against the manufacturer's current instructions.

FAQ

Will a new Alfresco ALXE fit my old ALX2 opening?

On Alfresco's published figures, yes: the ALX2 and ALXE use the identical 28½, 34½, 40½ or 54½-inch-wide opening, 23 inches deep and 10¼ inches high, and Alfresco lists the same jacket opening for both. An installer should still check your actual opening.

What replaces an Alfresco AGBQ grill?

The ALXE of the same size: AGBQ-30 to ALXE-30, AGBQ-42 to ALXE-42 and AGBQ-56 to ALXE-56. Alfresco's older cutout sheet lists the AGBQ on the same row as the ALX2, with the same opening as the current ALXE.

Can I upgrade my ALX2-36 to the AIPG-36?

Possibly. The width and depth match, but the AIPG-36 needs about 9⁄16 inch more height below the counter than an ALX2-36 opening, so check what sits under the opening first.

Does Alfresco say the ALXE replaces the ALX2?

We have not found Alfresco wording that says so. Our status comes from Alfresco's own cutout sheets, which give identical openings and the same jacket openings for both generations.
