Choose Your Grill Liner Before the Countertop Opening Is Cut
If your outdoor kitchen installation requires an insulating liner, choose the exact grill and approved jacket before the countertop opening is finalized. A grill's advertised size does not specify the hole for its jacket. Planning the equipment pair first gives the contractor the correct documents for fabrication.

The purchasing decision that affects the opening
An island can be designed around an appliance before anyone identifies the liner it needs. That leaves the installer comparing a finished opening with a different set of installation dimensions. The practical fix is to confirm the enclosure, grill model and approved jacket while the layout can still be adjusted.
Start with our guide to whether a liner is needed. A stone surface does not establish the materials beneath it. The installation manual and the planned assembly decide which components belong in the project.
“32-inch liner” is not a complete order
Summerset publishes separate jackets for 32-inch Sizzler / Sizzler Pro grills and 32-inch TRL Pro grills. Selecting by width alone skips the series relationship. Use our selected compatibility examples to see how full model names connect to jacket part numbers.

The drawing needs to name the measurement
A jacket's overall exterior size and specified cutout can differ. Coyote's C3JAKTCSL30 page publishes both for its C3C30 / C3SL30 jacket. A fabricator needs the installation cutout and notes, rather than an outside measurement copied into the opening schedule. Our cutout planning guide shows that model-specific example.
What to give your contractor
- The grill's complete model and current installation manual.
- The approved jacket part number and installation drawing.
- The island and countertop material specifications.
- The appliance layout, support plan and utility requirements.
- For a replacement, photos and measurements of the existing opening and jacket.
Ask the contractor to confirm the finished opening and support before fabrication. Keep the equipment order aligned with the drawing revisions being used.
Replacement projects need one extra decision
If a jacket is already installed, establish whether the new grill is approved for it and whether its condition supports reuse. A same-brand upgrade can still change jacket families. Read our liner reuse checklist before selecting a replacement around the old opening.
Plan the whole cooking station
A side burner or griddle may have its own jacket requirements. Include each appliance in the handoff instead of treating the main grill's liner as protection for the whole island. Use the wood-framed island checklist and burner accessory guide for those next decisions.
