What sizes does the Primo ceramic grill come in?

Primo builds five: four Oval sizes, the Junior, Large, X-Large and XX-Large, plus one Round model on a traditional round firebox. The Junior is the compact choice for small patios and the only size with Primo's GO portable base and top built for it. The Large is the everyday middle size. The X-Large has the deepest accessory range and is the one most often built into an island. The XX-Large is the size people buy for whole packer briskets and multiple pork butts in one session.

What is the difference between the Oval and the Round Primo?

The firebox shape changes how you cook on it. The Oval has a long cooking bed with a hot end and a cool end, so two-zone cooking is the default layout: bank the lump charcoal at one end and leave the far end clear, and you have direct and indirect heat side by side without rebuilding the fire. The Round is the traditional kamado layout, with a circle of coals under a circular grate, which gives very even direct heat and suits round baking stones and pizza with clearance all around. Accessories are cut to the firebox, so Round parts and Oval parts are not interchangeable.

Should I buy the grill head on its own or the All-In-One package?

Buy the All-In-One package if you want a freestanding grill you can set up and light: it includes the heavy-duty stand, side shelves, an ash tool and a grate lifter, and needs no table, cradle or island built around it. Buy the head on its own if the grill already has somewhere to live, whether that is a cypress table, a cradle, a cart base or an opening cut into an outdoor kitchen counter. Head-first is the sensible order for a built-in, because the surround dictates counter height, storage and finish, and you are not paying for a base that will end up in the garage.

Can a Primo be built into an outdoor kitchen island?

Yes, and buying the head on its own is how most built-in installs start. Primo lists ceramic feet for built-in applications as the part made for that job, and the X-Large is the size with the most surrounds designed for it, including a two-piece island top and cypress countertop tables. Whichever route you take, leave the ash door reachable and give the dome enough clearance behind the grill to open fully. Take the specific opening dimensions and any clearance requirements from the manufacturer's installation instructions for your size.

What fuel does a Primo use, and can it smoke as well as grill?

A Primo burns lump charcoal only, with no burner dial and no gas connection; temperature is steered entirely by the bottom and top vents. Light one spot rather than the whole bed, open both vents to climb, then throttle the top vent back to hold. The heavy ceramic body stores heat rather than shedding it, so an opened lid or a cold rack of ribs does not send the temperature into a spiral. Add heat deflector plates between the fire and the food and the same grill becomes an indirect cooker for ribs, shoulders and roast chicken.

It is Primo's special edition of the Oval X-Large, sold as a grill head rather than as a complete package. Underneath the edition name it is the standard X-Large cooker, which means every accessory decision is an Oval X-Large decision: the same deflector plates, searing grate, griddle, pizza oven, rotisserie kit and rib racks fit, and the same cradles, cart bases, cypress tables and island tops apply.
