The Primo Round Ceramic Charcoal Grill - All-In-One Package is the one round model in a range otherwise built on oval fireboxes, sold complete with the stand, side shelves, an ash tool and a grate lifter. If the classic kamado shape is what you picture when you think of a ceramic grill, this is that grill with everything it needs to stand up and cook.

A round firebox puts the fire in a circle beneath a circular grate, which is the layout most ceramic cooking techniques were written for. Baking stones, pizza inserts and round grates all drop straight in, and a full circle of coals under a full circle of grate is about the most even direct heat you can arrange. For a cooler zone, bank the lump to one side and cook on the other.

Everything else works the way ceramic cooking always does. Light lump charcoal in one spot, open both vents to climb, close the top vent down to hold, and let the ceramic body carry the temperature through the cook. Add a heat deflector and the same grill roasts and smokes instead of grilling.

  • Includes the stand, side shelves, ash tool and grate lifter
  • Freestanding — no cradle, table or island needed
  • The Round firebox, so it takes Round-specific accessories rather than Oval ones
  • Shares several multi-size racks and baking stones with the Oval Junior, Large and X-Large

If you want the cooker without the base, buy the Primo Round grill head on its own. To cook indirect, add the Primo heat deflector rack for the Round. The Primo pizza oven for the Round and the Primo Round rotisserie kit are the two additions that change what it can do most, and there is more in Primo grills.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is included in the Primo Round All-In-One package?

The Round ceramic grill, its stand, side shelves, an ash tool and a grate lifter. That is the cooker plus the base it sits on, work surfaces to either side, and the two tools you use every cook — one for clearing ash out of the bottom, one for lifting a grate that is too hot to touch.

How does this compare with the Round grill head listing?

The head is the ceramic cooker alone, meant to go into a cradle or a built-in counter you supply. This package includes the stand and shelves, so nothing else has to be bought or built before you cook. Same grill, different amount of hardware around it.

How is the Round different from the Primo Oval grills?

Firebox shape, and therefore accessory fit. The Round uses a circular firebox like a traditional kamado, while the Oval models use a long firebox. Round grates, deflector racks, pizza ovens and rotisserie kits are made for this model specifically — Oval Junior or Large parts will not seat in it.

Can I bake pizza and bread on it?

Yes, and the round shape suits it. A baking stone on a deflector rack gives you a hot, even floor with indirect heat above and below, which is what bread and pizza want. Primo also lists a pizza oven insert for the Round if you bake often enough to want a front-opening chamber.

What do I use for indirect cooking on the Round?

The Primo heat deflector rack for the Round is the piece that sets it up. It sits between the fire and the food and carries what shields the grate, so heat circulates around the food rather than hitting it straight from below. That is the difference between grilling and roasting.

Can I still cook two zones on a round firebox?

Yes, just differently from an Oval. Rake the lit lump to one side of the circle and leave the other side bare, and you get a hot arc and a cooler arc. It takes slightly more attention than a long firebox does, but it works perfectly well for finishing chicken or resting a steak.

Which cover fits the Round All-In-One?

Primo lists a cover for All-In-One grills that covers the Round, Junior and Large together, and that is the shape cut for a grill sitting on its stand with side shelves. Covers made for built-in installs are a different cut and will not sit right over a stand.

What size baking stone should I get?

Primo lists Round-specific Fredstones in two sizes, plus multi-size ceramic baking stones covering the Round with the Oval X-Large and Large. Bigger is not automatically better — you want air to move around the stone, so leave a gap between the stone edge and the grill wall. The Primo Round Fredstone baking stone is a sensible starting point.
