Alfresco invented the Sear Zone, pairing an infrared burner with stainless steel burners in a single grill, and this kit adds that capability to a 42-inch Intelligent Professional grill. The AIPG-SZK-42 is the Multi-Position Sear Zone insert: you choose whether the high-heat zone sits left, center, or right, and you can run more than one zone at once.
On a 42-inch cooking surface there is genuinely room to use that flexibility. Sear steaks over infrared at one end while vegetables or finished plates hold at gentler heat at the other, without either job compromising the other.

What does the AIPG-SZK-42 add to a 42-inch grill?
Infrared searing capability, positioned wherever you want it. Alfresco pairs an infrared burner with the grill's stainless steel burners so one section runs at true searing temperature while the rest of the surface stays under normal gas control.
A 42-inch cooking surface is where that split genuinely pays off. Steaks sear over infrared at one end while vegetables or finished plates hold at gentler heat at the other, and neither job compromises the other.
Can I choose where the sear zone goes?
Yes, that is what Multi-Position refers to. The insert is not fixed to one location: place it left, center, or right, and add a second zone if you want more searing area.
Does it fit the AIPG-42C cart model too?
Yes. It covers both 42-inch Intelligent Professional configurations, the AIPG-42 built-in and the AIPG-42C on a cart. The 36-inch grills use the AIPG-SZK-36 instead, and ALXE series grills do not take either.
What if my grill already came with a Sear Zone?
Then you do not need this kit. Certain AIPG configurations ship with SearZone installed from the factory, so read your model designation before ordering rather than going by grill size.
What is the construction?
304 stainless steel, matching the Intelligent Professional grill it drops into.
Why sear with infrared rather than a hotter gas burner?
Infrared burners reach far higher surface temperatures than standard gas burners, which is what produces a steakhouse crust instead of grey banding across the meat. Alfresco was the first manufacturer to combine infrared and stainless burners in one grill.
