Thirty-six inches is the Artisan size with the most choice: the American Eagle AAEP-36, the Artisan Series ART-36 and the Professional ARTP-36 all share one 34-1/2" x 19-3/4" x 9-1/2" cutout, and Alfresco lists the ARTIJ-36 insulated jacket against each of them. That matters to anyone building with wood studs, a composite panel system or any other combustible enclosure, because in that case Alfresco requires one of its own jackets. The jacket is a self-supporting 304 stainless steel shell sized to the 36-inch head, and the grill slides straight into it. What it asks of the builder is a bigger hole — 37-1/4" wide, 23-5/8" deep and 10-1/4" high — so it belongs on the drawings before framing starts. Also sold as ART-IJ36.

The ARTIJ-36 fits the Artisan American Eagle 36" Built-In Gas Grill (AAEP-36), Artisan Series 36" Built-In Grill (ART-36) and Artisan Professional 36" Built-In Grill (ARTP-36). All three share the same 34-1/2" x 19-3/4" x 9-1/2" grill cutout, and Alfresco lists this jacket on each model's page. The cart versions of those grills do not use a jacket.

Frame the island to 37-1/4" W x 23-5/8" D x 10-1/4" H. The jacket is 38-5/8" wide overall, 24-5/8" deep and 11-9/16" high. Assembly follows Alfresco's ARTIJ instructions: four panels are screwed together, the countertop support ring is removed from the grill's firebox and its six screws kept, the grill slides into the jacket on its support rails, the screws are reinstalled, the power cord passes through the provided hole and the assembly is set in clear silicone. This jacket is for a homeowner or contractor installing a 36-inch Artisan into a combustible island, which covers most framed backyard kitchens built with wood studs or panel systems. It fits whichever 36-inch line was chosen, so it is also a safe part to specify early for a builder quoting the island before the client has settled on American Eagle, Artisan Series or Professional.
