These are the stainless steel side shelves for the Primo Oval Junior, and the first thing to know is that they do not work alone. They require the Primo Cart Base with Basket for Junior, SKU PG00318 — the shelves attach to that cart. If you do not own it, order the cart at the same time or buy the combined cart-and-shelves listing instead.
Assuming the cart is already under your Junior, this is the upgrade that makes it a proper cooking station. You get somewhere to rest a hot grate, room to stage food going on and coming off, and a place for the ash tool and thermometer that is not the ground. Stainless takes the abuse and wipes clean, which matters on surfaces that spend their life next to a lit fire.
The shelves fit the Junior cart only. Primo builds a different shelf set for the X-Large and Large cart, and the two are not interchangeable.
The required part is the Primo Cart Base with Basket for Oval Junior. If you have neither piece yet, the Junior cart base with side shelves included is one purchase instead of two. Do I need anything else to use these side shelves?
Yes — the Primo Cart Base with Basket for Junior, SKU PG00318. These shelves mount to that cart and are not a freestanding stand of any kind. Bought on their own by someone without the cart, they cannot be used at all, so confirm you have that base before ordering, or add it to the same order.
Will these fit the X-Large or Large Primo cart?
No. This set is cut for the Junior cart. Primo sells a different set, the stainless steel side shelves for the Oval X-Large and Large, which mounts to the cart for those sizes. The two shelf sets follow their carts, so buy by the size of the cart you own.
Can I put these on a cypress table instead?
No. Their fitment is the Junior cart base, not a table. A cypress countertop table is a different kind of support that already surrounds the grill with its own surface, so it neither needs nor accepts these shelves. Choose one route or the other rather than trying to combine them.
I do not have the cart yet — what should I buy?
Take the Junior cart base with stainless steel side shelves, which is the cart and this surface sold as a single item. Buying the two pieces separately makes sense only when the cart is already in your yard and you are adding shelves to it later.
What do the shelves give you on a grill this size?
Working room, which the Junior has none of by itself. Somewhere to set the grate when you top up charcoal, space for the plate going on and the plate coming off, and a spot for tools within reach of the lid. On the smallest Oval, that surface changes how the grill is to cook on more than any other accessory.
