How much heat do the two burners put out?
15,000 BTUs each, 30,000 BTUs total. Both are brass Versa Burners.
That output is aimed at high-heat work — wok cooking, stir-fry and hard searing — not just holding a pot at a simmer.
What cutout does the slide-in double burner need?
12" wide, 20 1/4" deep and 9" high.
The unit itself is 13" wide, 23 1/2" deep and 12 1/2" high, so it overhangs the opening on all sides once it is slid in.
How much cooking space is there?
220 square inches across the two burners.
Why does the cover come completely off?
Because a hinged lid limits pan size. The stainless cover is fully detachable and gives you 180 degrees of access, so a wide pan or wok is not fighting a lid at the back.
What are the cooking grates like?
Solid 3/8" stainless steel, raised above the burners. The raised design improves airflow to the flame and spreads heat more evenly under the pan.
What is the burner built from?
18-gauge 304 stainless steel with polished accents. The burners themselves are brass.
How does it light?
Piezo valve ignition, built into the valve so lighting is part of turning the knob.
What does the LED accent light do?
It lights the front panel so you can see the control position in the dark. There is also an integrated burner skirt that keeps heat where it belongs rather than radiating into the island.
Natural gas or propane?
Both are available. Confirm the fuel configuration on the model you order matches the supply running to your island.
How heavy is it to handle during install?
The burner weighs 34 pounds. Packaged it is 15" wide by 27" deep by 16" high at 37 pounds, which is useful to know if you are carrying it through a house to a back yard.
What accessories are made for it?
Sunstone lists an insulating jacket and a griddle plate as options for this burner. The jacket matters if your island is built from combustible material; a griddle plate turns one burner into a flat cooking surface.
Should I get the double or the single Versa burner?
Take the double if you ever need two pots going at once — it doubles the output to 30,000 BTUs in the same 13" width.
The 13" Versa Single Side Burner uses the same 12" x 20 1/4" x 9" cutout at 15,000 BTUs, and can also sit on a countertop rather than dropping in.
