The AAEP-26C is the cart version of Artisan's smallest American Eagle grill: the same 26" two-burner cooking layout, mounted on a freestanding stainless steel cart instead of dropped into an island. Nothing has to be cut, framed or finished — the cart rolls into position on the patio and needs only a gas connection, which makes it the American Eagle to choose when you want Artisan cooking performance without committing to a permanent outdoor kitchen. Two 20,000 BTU stainless steel U-burners produce 40,000 BTUs across the grates, controlled by fully adjustable brass valves. It is ordered as either natural gas (AAEP-26C-NG) or propane (AAEP-26C-LP), and at 26" wide it is the narrowest cart in the line — the one that fits patios where a 32" or 36" cart would crowd the space.

Key Features

  • Two stainless steel U-burners — 20,000 BTUs each, 40,000 BTUs total for even heat across the cooking surface.
  • Fully adjustable brass valves — precision flame control, so each burner can be dialed down for indirect cooking.
  • Refractive ceramic briquettes — a self-cleaning system that turns the burner flame into even radiant heat and burns off drippings as you cook.
  • Electro-polished stainless steel grates — durable cooking surface over the briquette bed.
  • 9V electronic ignition — push-button start that runs off its own battery, with no outlet required.
  • Air-cooled control panel — keeps the front panel cool to the touch, improving safety and usability.
  • Two-position adjustable warming rack — lower it to hold food warm, raise it for clearance over a roast or a full load.
  • Built-in hood thermometer — read internal temperature and cook lid-down like an oven.
  • Optional Sear Zone infrared burner — a 20,000 BTU ceramic infrared burner for restaurant-quality searing with reduced flare-ups.
  • Freestanding stainless steel cart — no island, no cutout, repositionable on the patio.

Artisan American Eagle 26" Cart Grill Use & Care Manual

Artisan American Eagle 26" Cart Grill Specifications

Model and Installation Information

This is model AAEP-26C, the freestanding cart configuration. There is no island cutout involved — nothing is cut, framed or finished, and the grill does not drop into masonry. It arrives on its own cart, rolls into place and needs only a gas connection. If you are building a permanent island instead, the same two-burner cooking layout is offered as the Artisan American Eagle 26" built-in head.

Natural gas and propane are separate factory configurations, ordered as AAEP-26C-NG and AAEP-26C-LP; they are not field-converted, so choose based on where the grill will actually live. A propane cart can be moved anywhere on the patio, while a natural gas cart is tethered to wherever the gas line comes up. Ignition needs no electrical outlet, so the only service the cart requires is gas. Review the specification document above before you settle on a location.

You will see two BTU numbers quoted for this cart, and neither contradicts the other. Use the nominal 40,000 BTU burner rating when a plumber sizes the gas line or regulator. Artisan also publishes a certified total rated input of 37,600 BTU/hr for the appliance, certified to ANSI Z21.58 / CSA 1.6, and the definitive rating and orifice size for your particular cart are stamped on its serial plate — the reference Artisan's care and use manual points you to.

Who This Model Is Best For

Choose the AAEP-26C if you want Artisan build quality on a patio rather than in a masonry island. Two burners and 40,000 BTUs handle everyday family cooking, and the 26" width is the deciding factor: it is the narrowest American Eagle cart, so it suits balconies, courtyards and smaller patios where a 32" or 36" cart would dominate the space. Add the optional Sear Zone infrared burner if steaks are a regular event; otherwise the two U-burners and the briquette bed cover the range.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to build anything to use this grill?

No. This is the freestanding cart version, so it rolls into place and needs only a gas connection. Nothing gets cut, framed or finished.

If you are building a permanent island instead, the same cooking layout is offered as a 26" built-in head.

How much heat does it produce?

Two stainless steel U-burners at 20,000 BTUs each, for 40,000 BTUs total. Fully adjustable brass valves let you dial each one down for indirect cooking.

How wide is the cooking area?

The grill is 26" wide. That is the smallest of Artisan's cart grills and the one that fits patios where a 32" or 36" cart would crowd the space.

Can I add a sear burner?

Yes. A 20,000 BTU Sear Zone ceramic infrared burner is available as an option for this grill. It produces the intense, direct heat that steaks want, with fewer flare-ups than an open flame.

Does it need an outlet?

No. Ignition is a 9V electronic system with push-button controls, so the grill runs entirely off its own battery.

What are the grates and the heat system?

Stainless steel grates with an electro-polished finish sit above refractive ceramic briquettes. The briquettes turn the burner flame into even radiant heat and burn off drippings as you cook.

Is the warming rack adjustable?

It has two positions. Lower it to hold finished food warm above the grates, or raise it when you need clearance for a roast or a full load of food.

Propane or natural gas?

Both are offered. A propane cart can be moved anywhere on the patio; a natural gas cart is tethered to wherever the line comes up, so decide based on where the grill will actually live.

Will the front panel get hot?

The control panel is air-cooled, which keeps the front comfortable to reach across and protects the components behind it.

Can I cook with the lid closed?

Yes. A built-in hood thermometer reads the internal temperature, so you can run it like an oven for roasts and indirect cooking rather than guessing.
