The ART-32C is the Artisan Series 32" grill head mounted on Artisan's stainless cart, which makes it the way to get a welded 304 stainless outdoor kitchen grill without building an island for it. The head is identical to the built-in ART-32 — three 304-series stainless U-burners rated up to 54,000 BTUs, 530 square inches of main grate under half-inch refractive ceramic briquettes and electro-polished non-stick stainless grates, a two-position warming rack taking Artisan's published total to 719 square inches, 110V electronic ignition and interior halogen work lights. What the cart adds is a stainless cabinet with seamless doors held on double magnets, fold-down side shelves for landing space on both sides, and locking casters so the grill can be rolled off the patio wall for cleaning and put back where it belongs. It arrives fully assembled, which on a heli-arc welded 304 stainless grill of this weight matters more than it sounds.

Model and Installation Information

The cart model is ART-32C — the C is what separates it from the built-in ART-32, and the two are not interchangeable, since the built-in head has no cart and no cabinet. Order it as ART-32C-LP for propane or ART-32C-NG for natural gas. On the propane version a standard 20 lb (5 gallon) cylinder sits in the cart cabinet; on the natural gas version that space is free, but the grill has to be plumbed to a gas line where it stands, which in practice means it rolls only as far as the connection allows.

There is no island cutout to worry about, but there is one thing people underestimate: this grill needs electricity. The 110V electronic ignition and the interior halogen lights both run off a 115 VAC supply on a GFI-protected circuit, so plan the cart's parking spot around a weatherproof outdoor outlet. Allow for the footprint too — 57-3/8" wide by 26-5/16" deep by 49" high with the shelves down, plus clearance for the hood to swing up and for the doors to open. At 270 lb it moves easily on its casters over a smooth patio, less easily over grass or a step. The cover made for this model is the ART-32CVC; the plain ART-32CV is the built-in cover and will not fit the cart.

Who This Model Is Best For

This is for the buyer who wants outdoor-kitchen build quality without the outdoor kitchen — welded 304 stainless, ceramic briquettes, a lit interior and a live-spark ignition, on a cart that can be positioned rather than poured in place. It also makes sense as a first move for someone who intends to build an island eventually: the head is the same one that goes into a 30-1/2" cutout, so the cooking you learn on it carries over exactly. Choose the 32" if you are cooking for a family and want the shelf space; step up to the ART-36C for a larger grate on the same cart design. If the plan is a permanent island from the start, the ART-32 is this grill without the cart.
