Frequently Asked Questions

How many burners does the TF40 have and how much heat do they make?

Five cast stainless steel burners at 14,000 BTUs each, giving 70,000 BTUs across the main grilling surface. Adding the 10,000 BTU infrared rear burner brings the combined output to 80,000 BTUs.

Five separately controlled burners across a 37" grid means you can run a hot searing zone at one end and hold finished food at the other.

How large is the cooking area?

892 square inches total, split as 663 square inches on the main grid and 229 square inches on the warming rack. The main cooking grid is 37" wide by 18" deep.

There is a removable inset cooking tray in the grill as well, which lifts out when you want the whole grate free.

How much room do I need for it?

63.75" wide, 25.6" deep, 49" high. That width includes both fold-down side shelves, so check gate and path clearances before the grill arrives if it has to be wheeled around the house.

What does the infrared rear burner do?

It drives rotisserie cooking at 10,000 BTUs, radiating heat onto the food from behind instead of from below. The spit hardware is not in the included items list, which covers the cart, hose and regulator — the rotisserie kit for the 40" grill is a separate item.

Does the cart come with it?

Yes. A deluxe cart with fold-down side shelves and wheels is included and requires assembly, and a hose and regulator are supplied.

Which fuel types are available?

Natural gas and liquid propane, sold as separate configurations. Confirm the supply at the grill's location first, since the two are not interchangeable after the fact.

How do you light it?

Flame Thrower ignition works from each control knob, and indicator lights behind the knobs show which of the five burners are running.

What lighting does it have?

Interior halogen lighting for the cooking surface plus a full-length exterior LED light bar. On a grill this wide the exterior bar is what lets you read the whole control panel at once.

What is the construction?

#304 stainless steel body with square stainless steel cooking grates. Flame tamers, burner covers and heat zone separators are 304 stainless as well.

Is there an island version of this grill?

Yes. This one is the freestanding cart on wheels; the built-in TF40 is the drop-in version for a finished island.

Is the TF40 more grill than most people need?

It depends on how many you cook for at once. The step up from the 32" TF32 is 186 more square inches of main grid and one more 14,000 BTU burner; the step down to the TF25 loses the infrared rear burner entirely.
