How much heat do the two burners produce?
Two independent burners at 12,000 BTUs each, 24,000 BTUs in total. That is enough under a stockpot to bring water to a genuine boil outdoors, not just a simmer.
Can I run both burners at different settings?
Yes. Each burner has its own control knob, so one can hold a sauce at a simmer while the other runs high for sautƩing.

How much island width does it take up?

What are the grates made of?

Should I get the double or the single side burner?
Take the double if you cook full meals outdoors and need two pots going at once. If you only need one burner for a sauce or a pot of corn, the 12" single side burner takes less counter space.
Is there a cover and an insulated jacket for it?
Yes to both. There is a cover made for the double side burner and a matching insulated jacket for the built-in installation.
The jacket is the one to plan for before the island is framed, since it changes the space the unit occupies.
What is it actually useful for?
Boiling, sautƩing and simmering beside the grill: pasta water, corn, sauces, melted butter, side dishes. It covers the cooking that does not belong on grates.
