What size opening does the C3CH36 need in my island?

Build the cutout at 32 1/2" wide x 12 1/2" high x 20 1/2" deep. The grill itself measures 35 1/2" W x 25 1/2" D x 25 1/4" H, so it overhangs the opening and rests on the island top.

Frame to the cutout numbers, not the overall numbers. The cutout height on this charcoal model is taller than Coyote's gas built-ins, so do not reuse a gas grill opening without checking it.

How much grilling area do you get?

875 square inches, on a cooking grid measuring 32" wide by 20" deep. That is a full 36-inch class cooking surface with no burner box eating into it.

How do you control temperature on a charcoal grill?

Two ways on this one: the charcoal tray adjusts for height, and adjustable air dampers control airflow. Raising the tray brings the fuel closer to the food for searing, lowering it backs the heat off for slower cooking.

The dampers handle the fine adjustment and the amount of smoke. Between the two you get more control than a fixed-grate charcoal grill gives you.

Can I add charcoal without pulling the food off?

Yes. The charcoal tray sits on a pull-out drawer, so you can slide it forward and add charcoal or wood chunks mid-cook.

Yes, an analog hood thermometer is built in, so you can read the cooking chamber without opening the lid and losing heat.

Neither. This is a charcoal grill with zero gas burners, so there is no gas hookup, no regulator and no ignition system to plumb.

Does the hood have a spring assist?

No. The C3CH36 hood is lifted manually. Coyote's spring-assisted hoods appear on the CL and SL gas series, not on this charcoal model.
