Built entirely from premium 304 stainless steel, the C3CL42 is designed to last for decades outdoors, resisting rust and corrosion season after season. Powering the cooking surface are five Infinity burners made from 304 cast stainless steel, delivering a combined 100,000 BTUs of precise, even heat for fast preheating and consistent, high-performance searing.
With 1,247 square inches of total cooking capacity—990 square inches of primary grilling area plus a 257-square-inch secondary rack—this grill handles everything from intimate dinners to large gatherings with ease. What cutout does the 42-inch CL-Series need?
39 1/2" W x 10 1/4" H x 20 1/2" D. The grill overall is 42" W x 23" H x 25 1/2" D, so it laps over the opening and sits on the island top.
Framing to the overall dimensions instead of the cutout is the most common outdoor kitchen mistake, and on a 42-inch unit it is an expensive one to correct.
How many burners and what is the total output?
Five Infinity burners made from 304 cast stainless steel, delivering 100,000 BTUs combined. There is no rear burner — the CL-Series does not offer one in any configuration.
How much can it cook at once?
1,247 square inches of total capacity: 990 square inches of main grilling area plus a 257 square inch secondary rack. The main cooking grid measures 39 7/8" x 17 1/4".
The secondary rack is where you hold finished food or run indirect heat while the main grid stays hot.
Can I run different temperature zones?
Yes. Heat zone separators sit between the burners so you can hold distinct temperatures across the grid instead of letting heat drift between sections.
Does the hood stay open on its own?
Yes. The hood is spring-assisted and double-walled, so it lifts easily and holds heat better than a single-wall lid. An integrated wind guard keeps the flame and temperature steadier on breezy days.
How does it light, and what happens if the flame goes out?
Flame Thrower ignition starts the burners. A safety valve and thermocouple system only lets gas flow when a flame is present and shuts the gas off automatically if the flame goes out.
Is a rotisserie included?
No. The rotisserie kit is sold separately for the C3CL42 — see the Coyote Rotisserie Kit for 42" Gas Grills (C3ROT42). The CL-Series has no rear burner; the SL-Series 42 is the model that ships with both a standard infrared rear burner and the rotisserie kit.
Can I see the controls at night?
Internal and external grill lighting is standard, and the control panel is smudge-proof, which keeps fingerprints off the most-handled surface on the grill.
Natural gas or propane?
Both. C3CL42NG is the natural gas build and C3CL42LP is the propane build. Match the model code to your supply when you order.
How much does it weigh?
180 pounds. On a 42-inch opening that load sits on a fairly long span of framing, so size the framing for it while the island is still open.
What material is it made from?
304 stainless steel throughout, including the cast stainless burners, which is the grade that stands up to years of outdoor exposure.
What if I want this grill without building an island?
