What cutout does the C2P28 need?

26 1/4" wide x 23" deep x 16 1/2" high. Note the depth and height: at 23 inches deep and 16 1/2 inches high, this opening is considerably taller and deeper than a Coyote gas grill cutout.

The unit overall is 28" W x 27" D x 31" H, so it also needs more vertical room above and below the counter than a gas grill head. Plan the island around the pellet grill, not the other way round.

What temperature range does it cover?

175°F to 700°F, set on a digital touch screen and held automatically by the pellet feed system. That range covers low-and-slow smoking at the bottom and searing at the top.

How much cooking space is there?

609 square inches total: 450 square inches on the main grate plus a 159 square inch secondary rack.

Can it actually sear, or is it only a smoker?

It can sear. Interchangeable burn pot grates let you switch the fire between low-and-slow smoking and high-heat direct cooking, and the top of the range is 700°F.

It also works as an oven, so pizza, roasted vegetables and baking are on the table alongside barbecue.

How much fuel does the hopper hold?

12 pounds, loaded from the front. Front loading matters on a built-in, because a rear or top hopper would be unreachable once the unit is in the island.

Can I monitor food temperature?

Yes. Three temperature probes are included, so you can track multiple cuts at once without opening the hood.

Does it need electricity?

Yes. The digital touch screen, the dual fan system and the auger that feeds pellets are all electric, so your island needs power at the grill location.

Run the electrical before the island is closed up. Retrofitting an outlet behind a finished island is far harder than roughing it in.

What keeps the heat and smoke consistent?

A dual fan, auger and drip tray system with Smart Drop pellet feed. The fans and feed rate work together to hold your set temperature rather than letting the fire swing.

How heavy is it?

200 pounds. That is much heavier than a gas grill head of similar width, so the island framing needs to be built for it.

What is the exterior made of?

304 stainless steel, with a spring-assist double-walled hood and internal and external lighting.

Should I get the 28-inch or the 36-inch pellet grill?

The 36" Next-Gen pellet grill gives you 808 square inches and a 17 pound hopper against 609 square inches and 12 pounds here. Both share the same 23-inch cutout depth and 16 1/2-inch cutout height.

The 28 is the one to pick when island width is limited, since it needs only a 26 1/4-inch opening.

Can it replace a gas grill?

For most cooking, yes. It grills, smokes, bakes and roasts on one appliance, and the digital control means you set a temperature instead of managing burner knobs.
