American Made Grills Alturi Drop-In Infrared Sear Burner

The American Made Grills Alturi Drop-In Infrared Sear Burner (IRB-ALT) replaces one standard burner position with 26,000 BTUs of infrared heat — the kind of temperature that puts a proper crust on a ribeye in ninety seconds a side. It is the single most-requested upgrade on a premium grill, and on the Alturi platform it drops straight in. See the rest of our side and power burners from American Made Grills.

Infrared works differently from an open flame. Instead of heating air that then heats the food, the burner radiates directly onto the surface, which means far less moisture is driven off during the sear. The practical result is a darker crust and a juicier interior than the same steak cooked over a conventional burner at the same nominal BTU.

Sized specifically for the Alturi burner opening, so it seats correctly and the valve linkage lines up without modification.

Because it occupies a burner position rather than sitting on top of the grates, you keep full use of the cooking surface and lose nothing in hood clearance. Made in the USA and covered by the Gold Standard warranty with 100% non-prorated replacement parts.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much heat does the IRB-ALT produce?

26,000 BTUs of infrared output from a single burner. It is a searing burner rather than a general-purpose one, and the number reflects heat put onto the food rather than into the air above it.

Will it fit my Alturi grill?

Yes. The IRB-ALT is sized specifically for the Alturi burner opening, so it seats correctly and the valve linkage lines up without modification.

It is the Alturi version of this burner. The Atlas, Estate and Hybrid platforms each take their own, so check the model code against your grill. See the rest of the American Made Grills burners.

Does it add a burner or replace one?

It replaces one standard burner position. You are converting an existing position to infrared rather than adding capacity, so the grill keeps the same number of burner locations after the swap.

Do I lose cooking space by installing it?

No. It occupies a burner position beneath the grates rather than sitting on top of them, so the usable cooking surface is unchanged and you lose nothing in hood clearance.

What does infrared actually do differently?

It radiates heat directly onto the surface of the food instead of heating air that then heats the food.

Far less moisture is driven off during the sear, which gives you a darker crust and a juicier interior than the same steak cooked over a conventional burner at the same nominal BTU.

How many burner positions does one unit cover?

One. For a wider infrared zone you would need more than one unit, and more than one position free to put them in.

Where is it made?

In the USA, like the rest of the American Made Grills line.
