The ART-SB1 is Artisan's smallest side burner and the one that fits where the bigger units will not. It is a single brass burner rated at 15,000 BTUs that drops into an 11" by 15" countertop opening — a modest cut by outdoor-kitchen standards — and gives you a place to hold a sauce, warm a side or heat a medium pot without opening the grill lid to make room. A hinged stainless steel cover folds down over the burner when it is idle, protecting it and returning the space to prep surface. Ignition is battery powered, so the island rough-in is a gas line only. It is made in the USA in stainless steel, weighs 18 lbs, and is ordered in either propane or natural gas. With the optional shelf mount accessory, the same burner can be fitted to an Artisan freestanding cart grill instead of an island.

Key Features

  • Single brass burner, 15,000 BTUs — enough for sauces, sides and a medium pot alongside the grill.
  • Brass burner construction — tolerates repeated heat cycling and stays dimensionally stable, so the flame pattern holds up over years of outdoor use.
  • Hinged stainless steel cover — folds down over the burner when idle, protecting it and doubling as prep surface.
  • Battery-powered ignition — no 110v connection needed at the burner location.
  • Compact 11" x 15" cutout — fits into island runs that cannot accommodate a double side burner or a power burner.
  • Simple drop-in installation — the burner sits into the countertop opening and the flange carries the weight.
  • Cart-mount option — with the optional side shelf accessory it can be used with an Artisan freestanding grill.
  • Made in the USA — stainless steel construction, 18 lbs.

Care & Use Manual ART-SB1 Side Burner

Model and Installation Information

The model number is ART-SB1. Installed as a built-in, it needs a countertop opening 11" wide by 15" deep, with the burner itself measuring 12 3/8" wide by 16 1/8" deep by 4 11/16" high so the flange overlaps and carries the weight. Confirm those cutout figures against the spec sheet and check that the opening is square before the island is built, or before an existing opening is cut or modified. At 18 lbs one person can set it into the opening without help.

Ignition is battery powered, so no electrical supply is required at the burner — the rough-in is gas only.

Natural gas and propane are separate ordered configurations, not a field conversion: ART-SB1-NG for natural gas, ART-SB1-LP for propane. Match the SKU to the supply feeding the island.

If you are not building an island at all, the optional side shelf accessory mounts this burner to an Artisan freestanding cart grill — that part is the Artisan Single Side Burner Shelf Mount for Cart Model Only ARTC-SBM-01, sold separately.

Who This Model Is Best For

Choose the ART-SB1 when island width is the constraint. One 15,000 BTU brass burner in an 11" by 15" opening is the least real estate a real side burner can take, which makes it the burner for a compact island run, a corner beside the grill head, or a counter section already committed to storage and doors. It is also the only Artisan side burner in this group that can move onto a freestanding cart, via the ARTC-SBM-01 shelf mount. If you routinely run two pots at once, or you boil large volumes, the double side burner or the power burner are the models sized for that — this one is deliberately the small, single-purpose option.

Frequently Asked Questions

What size cutout does the ART-SB1 need?

11" wide by 15" deep. That is a small opening by outdoor kitchen standards, which is why this burner fits into island runs where a double burner or power burner will not.

How many BTUs does the burner deliver?

15,000 BTUs from a single brass burner. That is enough for sauces, sides and a medium pot, and it keeps you from opening the grill lid to make room.

Why a brass burner?

Brass tolerates repeated heat cycling and stays dimensionally stable, so the flame pattern holds up over years of outdoor use.

Is the burner protected when it is idle?

Yes, a hinged stainless steel cover. Fold it down when the burner is idle and it protects the burner and doubles as prep surface.

Does the ignition need power?

Battery-powered ignition. No 110v connection is needed at the burner, which keeps the island rough-in to a gas line only.

How does it install?

It is a simple drop-in: the burner sits into the countertop opening and the flange carries the weight. Confirm your 11" by 15" opening is square before setting it in.

Can I use it with a freestanding Artisan grill?

Yes, with the optional side shelf accessory, which mounts the burner to a cart grill instead of an island. That part is listed separately: side burner shelf mount for cart models.

Is it made for propane or natural gas?

Both versions are made. Order the one matching your grill's supply — mixing fuel types across an island is not something to sort out later.

How heavy is it to handle during install?

18 lbs. One person can set it into the opening without help, unlike a power burner of the same footprint class.

Single or double side burner?

Take the single if you cook one side dish at a time and island width is limited. The double side burner ARTP-SB2 gives you two 15,000 BTU brass burners for 30,000 BTUs total, but needs a considerably wider opening.
