How much heat does the SB1 put out?
15,000 BTUs from a round brass and aluminum burner. Brass and aluminum respond quickly to knob changes, which is what side dishes and sauces need.
What cutout does the SB1 need?
8 inches wide, 15 1/2 inches deep and 2 1/2 inches high. It is the smallest opening of the Summerset built-in burners, which is why it fits into island runs that are already full.
How much clearance does it need below the countertop?
Only 2 1/2 inches of cutout height, so it can go above a drawer stack or a cabinet without stealing much interior space.
How much space is on the grate?
120 square inches, on a sturdy stainless steel grate sized to hold pots and pans of different diameters steady.
What grade of stainless steel is the SB1?
#304 stainless steel, the more corrosion-resistant grade, including the lid.
How does it light?
A Piezo ignition system. It is mechanical rather than electronic, so there is no battery to replace and nothing to fail in cold weather.
Is a lid included?
Yes, a #304 stainless steel lid comes with it. Keeping it closed protects the burner from rain and debris and keeps the island surface looking uniform.
What fuel does the SB1 use?
Both versions are sold. Choose the one that matches the gas supply feeding the rest of the island.
What would I cook on it?
Sauces, sauteed vegetables, boiling water, side dishes. It exists so you can finish a full meal at the grill instead of walking back into the kitchen halfway through.
Is one burner enough, or should I get the double?
One burner handles one pot at a time. If you routinely run a sauce and a pot of corn together, the Summerset Pro double side burner gives you two independently controlled 12,000 BTU burners and 249 square inches instead of 120.
What if I need to boil a large pot outdoors?
Step up to a power burner. The Summerset Pro power burner runs 60,000 BTUs through a dual-ring burner with a 9mm grate, which is a different class of heat than a 15,000 BTU side burner.
