Coyote Built-In Grill Replacement: Which Current Coyote Fits Your Old Opening

If your Coyote built-in grill is a 34-, 36- or 42-inch C2-Series, today's Coyote Gen 3 (C3) grill of the same size uses the identical published opening, and Coyote lists the same insulated jacket for both. Older Coyote generations and some sizes are less straightforward. This page records the openings Coyote published for its discontinued built-in grills, taken from Coyote's own manuals and dimension sheets, and shows which current grill matches each one and what, if anything, still needs checking.

Last verified 2 October 2026. Prices change; the product page always shows the current price. Before you order, measure your actual opening and confirm it against the new grill's installation manual.

How to read this page

Status What it means
Confirmed same-opening replacement Coyote publishes the identical cutout width, depth and height for the old and current models, and Coyote's own jacket listing names both, which indicates the same head housing. An installer should still check your actual opening.
Same published opening Coyote's published cutouts match in all three dimensions, but no Coyote document links the two models directly.
Dimensional candidate Close, but one dimension differs or Coyote's own documents disagree. The note says what to check or change.
Not covered We could not verify the original opening from a Coyote document.

All figures are inches, written width × depth × height. "Head" is the grill's overall size above the counter.

Which Coyote do you have?

The model number is on the rating label, usually inside the access door or on the drip-tray frame. Coyote's built-in gas grills have gone through four generations: the original Coyote grills (model numbers beginning CC, CCX, CS, CSX, CSL, CSLX or CH), then C1, C2 and today's C3 (Gen 3, launched in 2025). Coyote marks C1 grills as older/archived models on its own store and still sells some parts for all of these generations.

If your island has a Coyote insulated jacket

The jacket's opening, not the grill's, is what matters in a combustible island. For C1 and C2 grills, Coyote's current jackets are the same parts, so a confirmed same-opening replacement keeps the same jacket. For original (pre-C1) Coyote islands, the old jackets used a 21¾-deep opening; today's CJAKTCS36 and CJAKTCS42 need 22⅛, so the opening has to be trimmed about ⅜ deeper. Coyote's current 42-inch jacket also needs 42¼ wide, where the original needed 42½.

Before you order

  • Read the model number from the rating label rather than going by size.
  • Measure the opening: width at the front and back, depth, and height to the first thing below the counter.
  • Check fuel: natural gas and propane are separate models on current Coyote grills.
  • If the island is combustible (wood framing), keep or replace the jacket Coyote specifies; never install the charcoal grill in combustible construction.

Get help with your Coyote replacement

Send us the old model number, your measured opening, whether there is a jacket, and your fuel. We will tell you which current Coyote grill matches and what, if anything, needs checking. Use the fit help form or call 843-212-7209. We are a retailer: installation must be confirmed by a qualified installer against Coyote's current instructions.

FAQ

Will a new Coyote C3 grill fit my old Coyote opening?

For the 34-, 36- and 42-inch C2-Series, yes on the published figures: Coyote gives the identical cutout for the C2 and C3 models of the same size and lists one jacket for both. C1 grills of those sizes share the same published opening. Original pre-C1 grills, 28/30-inch, 50-inch, charcoal and pellet models need a closer check, shown in the tables above.

Can I reuse my Coyote insulated jacket?

For C1 and C2 grills in 34, 36 and 42 inches, Coyote lists the same jacket for the old and current models. Jackets from original pre-C1 grills used a shallower opening, so a current jacket needs the opening trimmed about ⅜ inch deeper.

Does Coyote say Gen 3 is a drop-in replacement?

We have not found a Coyote statement that says so in those words. Our status comes from Coyote's published cutout figures and its own jacket listings, which name old and current models together.

My Coyote is a 30-inch SL. Which grill replaces it?

The current C3SL30 is the natural successor, but Coyote's own documents give two different cutout widths for it (27 and 25½). We are confirming with Coyote; send us your opening and we will check it.
