Side by side, across the 26-inch width. Both standard kitchen bins face you when the drawer is out, so sorting trash from recycling is a single motion rather than reaching past one bin to get at another.
What opening does it need?
The frame is 26" W x 22.5" D x 34" H, and it installs drop-in, so the island opening has to be built to those dimensions.
Do both bins pull out together?

What if I do not have 26 inches to spare?
