KitchenAid stopped making outdoor grills, so a KitchenAid built-in grill can only be replaced with another brand. This page records the island openings KitchenAid specified for its built-in grills, taken from KitchenAid's own installation instructions, and compares them with the published cutouts and head sizes of grills we sell today. It separates dimensional candidates from confirmed direct replacements. As of the date below, no current grill we sell is confirmed as a direct, no-modification replacement for a KitchenAid opening.
Last verified 2 October 2026. Prices change; the product page always shows the current price. Before you order, an installer should measure your actual opening and check it against the new grill's installation manual.
| Status | What it means |
|---|---|
| Confirmed direct replacement | The manufacturer's drawings show the new grill covers the old opening on all four sides and fits its depth and height, with no change to the island. None at present. |
| Dimensional candidate | The new grill's published cutout is smaller than the old opening and its head is wider than the old opening, so its side flanges can rest on the countertop. Something else (usually front-to-back depth) still needs a filler, trim or an installer's check. |
| Rejected | A published dimension rules it out without cutting the countertop, or its head is too narrow to cover the old opening. |
All figures are in inches, written width × depth × height. "Overhang per side" is how far the new grill's head reaches past each side of the old opening: (new head width − old opening width) ÷ 2.
The model number is on the rating label, usually inside the access door, on the drip-tray frame or under the control panel. This page covers the KitchenAid-branded built-in heads made under Whirlpool with model numbers beginning KBNS, KBNU, KBSS or KBSU, in 27-, 36- and 48-inch sizes. KitchenAid built-ins with numbers beginning 740- or 750- were made by a different manufacturer; their manuals give only a minimum enclosure size, and published cutout figures for them disagree, so they are not covered here yet. If you have one of those, send us the model number and your measured opening.
KitchenAid's installation instructions (documents W10175730, W10110725 and W10138384) say these heads are supported by their side flanges resting on the countertop and must not be supported from below. KitchenAid required its insulated jacket when the grill sat in a combustible enclosure; brick, block or steel islands used the plain opening. So the first question is whether your island has a KitchenAid jacket in it.

The 38⅝-inch KitchenAid opening is wider than the cutout of any 36-inch grill we sell, so the useful matches are 40-inch-class grills. Each one below has a published cutout narrower than 38⅝ and a head wide enough to overhang both sides of the old opening.

What still has to be solved on every candidate: depth. Each of these grills is designed for an opening about 2 inches shallower front-to-back than the KitchenAid one. The manufacturers' drawings show the overall head depth but not where the front panel and rear lip sit relative to the cutout edges, so we cannot show from the drawings that the head covers the old opening at the front and back. Expect a filler strip, trim or a front/rear support detail, decided by your installer with the old grill out. The side overhangs above (⁷⁄₁₆ to ⅝ inch) are smaller than each grill's own designed flange, so the side edges of the old opening also need checking for chips or uneven stone before relying on them.
A combustible island needs the heat barrier the new grill's manufacturer specifies; the KitchenAid jacket is built around the KitchenAid head. So the comparison is between the old jacket opening and the new grill's liner cutout.

| Coyote CL-Series 42" or SL-Series 42" + Coyote 42" jacket CJAKTCS42 | 42¼ × 22⅛ × 11 | ¼ too wide (⅛ per side); 1⅞ shallower; height fits | Closest match — needs the opening widened ⅛ inch each side plus a depth detail |
| RCS 40" Premier RJC40A + RCS liner LJRJC40 | 40½ × 22 × 9¼ | Fits inside, about ¾ narrower each side and 2 shallower | Coverage not shown — RCS does not publish the liner's outside size |
Every other liner we checked (Alfresco, RCS Cutlass, Artisan, AMG, Summerset, TrueFlame) either needs a larger opening than 42 × 24 × 11¾ or has no published cutout we could verify.

With only about ³⁄₁₆ inch of head past each side of the old opening, these are not drop-in swaps: plan on trim or a filler at the sides as well as the front and back. The Estate Freedom 30" shares the Estate 30 cutout, but we have not confirmed its head width from an AMG drawing.
We have not found a current grill-and-liner pair whose liner cutout fits inside 33 × 24 × 11¾. The closest, Alfresco's AIJ-30 jacket, needs 33¼ × 24⅝, and RCS's Cutlass 30 liner needs 35½ wide. Expect the opening to be enlarged.

No current candidate. The nearest grills we sell, the Coyote 50" Combo and Coyote 50" Hybrid, have a 47¾-inch cutout but a 50-inch head, which stops about 5⁄16 inch short of each side of the old opening. Filling a 48-inch opening usually means a narrower grill plus a filler panel or an added component, or enlarging the opening for a 54-inch-class head. That is a design decision for your installer; send us the opening and we will list what is possible.
Send us the KitchenAid model number from the rating label, your measured opening (width at the front and back, depth, and height to the first obstruction below), whether the island has a KitchenAid jacket, what the island is built from, and your fuel. We will check them against the published cutouts and head sizes of current grills and tell you which are candidates, what modification each would need, and what is still unknown. Use the fit help form or call 843-212-7209. We are a retailer: we help with product selection and fit questions, and installation must be confirmed by a qualified installer against the manufacturer's instructions.
Not one we can confirm today. Several current 40-inch grills have cutouts smaller than the KitchenAid 36-inch opening and heads wide enough to rest on the countertop at the sides, but each is designed for a shallower opening, so the front-to-back gap needs a filler or trim detail decided by an installer.
KitchenAid's installation instructions give 38⅝ inches wide, 22⅞ inches deep and 10¾ inches high without the insulated jacket, and 42 × 24 × 11¾ with the jacket.
Possibly, in a non-combustible island with the plain 36-inch opening, using one of the 40-inch dimensional candidates above plus a depth filler. For the 27-inch opening the side overhang is marginal, and for the 48-inch opening no current grill covers the opening. An installer has to confirm it on site.
The jacket was made for the KitchenAid head. Use the heat barrier the new grill's manufacturer specifies for a combustible island.
Not yet. Those models were made by a different manufacturer and their published cutouts disagree. Send us the model number and your measured opening and we will check it.
