The Alfresco Pizza Oven Plus is a built-in, gas-fired outdoor pizza oven that preheats in 15 minutes and cooks a true Neapolitan pizza in about three minutes. A fireplace-style gas log drives heat up into a 3/4" ceramic ceiling slab for intense top-down heat, while a ceramic infrared hearth burner keeps the floor of the oven hot enough to cook the underside of the crust just as fast as the top. It is built for pizza, but it also bakes, roasts and iron-skillet sears.

Key specifications

  • Cooking area: 456 sq. in.
  • Hearth and ceiling: 3/4" thick ceramic slab, both surfaces, for even radiant heat
  • Burners: high-performance tube-log burner plus high-heat ceramic infrared hearth burner
  • Preheat: 15 minutes; approximately 3-minute Neapolitan pizzas
  • Maximum temperature: over 1,000°F
  • Opening: full 8.5", with stainless steel-framed glass doors
  • Construction: all 304 18-8 heli-arc welded stainless steel, double-walled removable top
  • Exhaust: countertop rear exhaust
  • Lighting: halogen oven light
  • Control panel: Alfresco natural air-cooling plenum keeps it cool to the touch
  • Fuel: natural gas (AXE-PZA-BI-NG) or propane (AXE-PZA-BI-LP)

What you can cook in it

The combination of a stored-heat ceramic hearth and top-down radiant heat is what separates this from a covered grill with a pizza stone in it. Neapolitan pizza is the headline use, but the same heat profile handles flatbreads, rustic breads, roasted vegetables and proteins, and cast-iron searing. Doors and hinges are removable, so you can run the oven open for high-heat pizza work or closed for baking and roasting.

Built-in AXE-PZA-BI or countertop AXE-PZA?

Same oven where it counts: identical 456 sq. in. ceramic hearth, same burners, same 8.5" opening, same glass doors. The difference is how it is installed, and that decision is usually made for you by whether you are building an island.

This AXE-PZA-BI is designed to drop into an outdoor kitchen island, venting out the back at counter level. Choose it when the masonry is going in around the oven and the oven is part of the design.

The countertop AXE-PZA sits on an existing counter, or on the AXE-PZA-CART-01 rolling cart or the AXE-PZA-PPC deluxe prep cart. Choose it when you are adding pizza to a patio rather than building a kitchen around it, or when the oven needs to be able to move.

Installation and clearance

This is a built-in countertop oven, not a freestanding unit. It vents out the back at counter level, so your outdoor kitchen layout needs both counter space for the oven and clearance behind it for the rear exhaust. Order the fuel configuration that matches the gas supply at your island, natural gas or propane.

Still laying out the island? Call us at 843-212-7209 and we will confirm the cutout and clearances against Alfresco's current installation drawing before anything gets framed or poured.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does it take to get up to pizza temperature?

15 minutes to preheat. From there it cooks a Neapolitan pizza in about three minutes.

A fireplace-style gas log absorbs and radiates heat up to the ceramic ceiling slab, which is what accelerates the preheat and gives you the intense top-down heat a proper Neapolitan crust needs.

How much room is inside?

456 sq. in. of cooking space, behind a full 8.5" opening.

That opening height determines what you can get in and out, so measure your peel and any cast iron before you plan around it.

What is the hearth made of?

A 3/4" thick ceramic slab, and the ceiling is the same. Both radiate stored heat evenly instead of scorching one spot.

How is the oven heated?

Two burners plus the gas log: a high-performance tube-log burner and a high-tech, high-heat ceramic infrared hearth burner.

The infrared hearth burner is what keeps the floor of the oven hot enough to cook the underside of a pizza as fast as the top.

Can I cook things other than pizza in it?

Yes. Alfresco builds it to bake, roast and iron-skillet sear in addition to running pizzas.

The doors and hinges are removable, so you can work with the oven open for high-heat cooking or closed for baking and roasting.

Does it have glass doors, and can I see inside?

Yes. The oven uses stainless steel-framed glass doors, and there is a halogen oven light behind them, so you can check a pizza without opening the oven.

Is it built in, or does it sit loose on a counter?

It is a built-in countertop oven with rear exhaust. It needs counter space in an outdoor kitchen island plus clearance behind it for the exhaust.

If you are still laying out the island, call us at 843-212-7209 before anything gets framed or poured and we will walk through the opening and clearances with you.

What cutout do I need?

Cutout dimensions depend on the configuration you order, and we would rather confirm them against Alfresco's current installation drawing than have you cut an island from a web page. Call 843-212-7209 and we will send the drawing that matches your model.

Will the control panel get hot?

Alfresco's natural air-cooling plenum keeps the control panel cool to the touch while the oven runs.

What is it built from?

All 304 18-8 heli-arc welded stainless steel, with a double-walled removable top.

Welded seams and a double wall are what let an oven this hot sit outdoors without opening up at the joints.

Is it available in propane?

Yes. Propane is AXE-PZA-BI-LP and natural gas is AXE-PZA-BI-NG. Order the configuration that matches the gas supply at your island.

What do I need to load and turn pizzas?

A long peel. The Alfresco 32.5" metal pizza peel reaches the back of the hearth through the 8.5" opening without putting your hands in the oven.
