Alfresco 30" Built-In Gas Griddle AXE-30GT (LP or NG)

The Alfresco AXE-30GT is a restaurant-grade flat top built to drop into an outdoor kitchen island. It gives you 468 sq. in. of 3/8" solid steel griddle surface across two independently thermostatically controlled zones, so you can hold one side at a gentle 250°F for eggs and pancakes while the other sits at full sear heat for smash burgers and onions. Total output is 37,600 BTU. Built from commercial 304 stainless steel with heli-arc welded seams, and made in the USA.

This is the built-in configuration. If you are not building an island, the AXE-30GTC cart griddle is the same unit supplied complete on a rolling stainless steel cart. If you already own this griddle and want to convert it, the XE-30GTC cart is sold separately.

Why a dedicated griddle instead of a griddle plate

A drop-in plate like the Alfresco Commercial Griddle AGSQ-G sits over your existing grill burners and is heated indirectly, so it is at the mercy of whatever the grill below it is doing. The AXE-30GT has its own burners under a 3/8" plate with a thermostat on each half, which means you set an actual temperature and it holds there.

That is the difference between a flat top you use occasionally and one you cook breakfast on every weekend. If you only griddle a few times a season, the plate is the cheaper answer. If flat-top cooking is a real part of how you use the kitchen, the dedicated unit is the one that earns its place. Browse both in griddle plates and built-in griddles.

Two zones, two temperatures

Each half of the plate has its own thermostatically controlled burner. Thermostatic control matters more on a griddle than on a grill: you are cooking in direct contact with steel, so a plate that drifts 75 degrees is the difference between a golden pancake and a burnt one. The 3/8" thickness is what carries that stability, holding heat when you drop a full load of cold food on it instead of crashing.

Practically, that means a breakfast service on one side and a sear on the other, or a low holding zone for finished food while you keep cooking.

Built for an outdoor island

The AXE-30GT drops into a 28 1/2" wide by 23" deep by 10 1/4" high cutout. If your island is framed in wood, composite, or any other combustible material, you need the AIJ-30-01 insulated jacket - that is a safety requirement, not an upsell. Masonry and non-combustible framing do not need it.

It needs a 115V outlet inside the island for the ignition system, and a gas line sized for its fuel. New to island construction? Start with our outdoor kitchen expert advice and the outdoor kitchen cost guide.

Natural gas or propane

Order the fuel that matches your setup. Natural gas connects to your home line at 4" W.C. through a 1/2" NPT fitting; propane runs at 10" W.C. through a 3/8" ODF fitting. These are not field-convertible, so pick correctly at checkout. Our natural gas and propane FAQs walk through how to tell which you have.

Finish options

Standard is brushed 304 stainless. Alfresco also builds this griddle in ten standard colors and the full RAL Classic collection of 216 colors as a special order. Call 843-212-7209 for color pricing and lead times.

Alfresco 30" Built-In Gas Griddle AXE-30GT - 468 Sq In, Dual-Zone Thermostatic Control, 37,600 BTU, 304 Stainless Steel

Frequently Asked Questions

How big is the cooking surface on the AXE-30GT?

468 sq. in., on a cooking plate measuring 27 1/2" wide by 17" deep.

That is enough to run roughly a dozen smash burgers or a full breakfast for six at once, with room to push finished food to a cooler zone.

Is the AXE-30G the same griddle as the AXE-30GT?

Yes. AXE-30GT is Alfresco's current model number for the 30" dual-zone built-in griddle, and AXE-30G is a shorthand you will see used for the same unit.

Order it here as AXE-30GT-LP for propane or AXE-30GT-NG for natural gas. If you are unsure, call 843-212-7209.

What size cutout does it need?

28 1/2" wide by 23" deep by 10 1/4" high.

Confirm your framing before ordering, and remember the island also needs a 115V outlet and a gas line routed to the opening. We will check your measurements with you at 843-212-7209.

How many BTU is it?

37,600 BTU total, from two 18,800 BTU stainless steel U-burners.

On a griddle, thermostatic control matters more than raw BTU, because the number you actually cook by is the plate temperature rather than the burner output.

What does dual-zone thermostatic control actually do?

Each half of the plate has its own burner and its own thermostat, so you set a target temperature and the griddle holds it.

In practice that means eggs and pancakes at 300°F on one side while the other side sits at sear heat for burgers, without the two halves fighting each other.

Does it need electricity?

Yes. 115 VAC, 6.8 amps, 50-60 Hz, through an 8 ft. power cord with a NEMA 5-15P 90° plug. A GFCI outlet is recommended.

The outlet needs to be inside the island, so plan for it during construction rather than after.

Do I need an insulated jacket?

Only if your island is built from combustible material such as wood or composite framing. In that case the AIJ-30-01 insulated jacket is required, not optional.

Masonry, block and other non-combustible islands do not need one. See our insulating grill liner FAQs if you are unsure what your island counts as.

Can I convert it from propane to natural gas later?

No. Order the fuel type you will actually use. Natural gas runs at 4" W.C. through a 1/2" NPT connection; propane runs at 10" W.C. through a 3/8" ODF connection.

Our natural gas and propane FAQs explain how to identify which supply you have.

Which cover fits it?

The AGV-30GT vinyl cover, which is cut specifically for this griddle.

A generic 30" grill cover such as the AGV-30 is cut for a grill head and will not fit correctly. The griddle also ships with a stainless steel cover for wind and weather protection.

How is this different from a griddle plate that sits on my grill?

A drop-in plate like the AGSQ-G is heated indirectly by your grill's burners, so its temperature depends on what the grill below is doing. The AXE-30GT has dedicated burners and a thermostat under a 3/8" plate.

If you griddle occasionally, the plate is the cheaper answer. If flat-top cooking is a regular part of how you cook, the dedicated unit holds temperature far better and recovers faster when you load it with cold food.

Can I use it freestanding instead of built-in?

Yes, by mounting it on the XE-30GTC griddle cart, which is built specifically for this griddle head.

That is the route to take if you are not ready to commit to island construction.

How thick is the griddle plate?

3/8" solid steel.

Thickness is what carries heat stability. A thin plate crashes in temperature the moment you drop cold food on it; 3/8" holds its heat through a full load.

What is it made of?

Commercial 304 stainless steel with heli-arc welded seams and polished accents, made in the USA.

Does it come in colors?

Standard is brushed 304 stainless. Alfresco also builds it in ten standard colors and the full RAL Classic collection of 216 colors as a special order.

Color models carry an upcharge and a longer lead time. Call 843-212-7209 for pricing and availability.

What can I actually cook on it?

Smash burgers, breakfast service, hibachi and teppanyaki, fajitas, cheesesteaks, seafood, and large batches of vegetables that would otherwise fall through grill grates.

The two zones let you run a hot sear side and a lower holding side at the same time, which is what makes it practical for cooking a full meal rather than one item.

Does it ship free?

Yes. Free shipping and no credit card fees. We are a family-owned outdoor kitchen retailer in Charleston, South Carolina, and you can reach a real person at 843-212-7209.
