How tall does the opening have to be for a single drawer?
Only 9 7/8" to 10" high. The full cutout is 15 1/4" wide, that 9 7/8"–10" height, and 20 3/8" deep.
That short opening is what makes the DR1-17 easy to slot into a run where a taller drawer stack would not fit.
What are the outside dimensions of the unit?
17" wide, 12 1/2" high and 20 3/8" deep. The width is where the "17-inch" in the name comes from.
What can I actually fit in one drawer this size?
Summerset sizes it for BBQ tools, utensils, towels and accessories. At 20 3/8" deep it takes long-handled tongs and spatulas lying flat rather than crowded.
Cookware and larger items are better suited to a deeper box; this one is aimed at the things you reach for while the grill is running.
What is the handle like?

Is DR1-17 the same as SSDR1-17?

What if I need more than one drawer in the same width?
Summerset builds the same 17" width as a two-drawer and a three-drawer unit, both of which need a taller cutout than this one.
The 17" triple drawer DR3-17 is the tallest of the three.
