Three separately valved U-burners are what set the AAEP-32 apart in Artisan's American Eagle line: 20,000 BTUs each for 60,000 BTUs total, so you can run a hot zone and a holding zone at the same time rather than cooking everything at one temperature. This is a built-in head, made in the USA from 304 stainless steel and designed to be framed permanently into an outdoor kitchen island as its cooking centerpiece. It is ordered in either a natural gas (AAEP-32-NG) or a propane (AAEP-32-LP) configuration to match the fuel your island is plumbed for. Underneath the seamless double-walled hood sit a 1/2" ceramic briquette bed, heavy-duty stainless grates, a dual-position warming rack and a hood thermometer, which together take the 32" grill from searing through lid-down oven roasting.

Key Features

  • Three stainless steel U-burners — 20,000 BTUs each, 60,000 BTUs total, each separately valved for zone cooking.
  • Fully adjustable brass valves — precision flame control from sear heat down to a genuine simmer.
  • 1/2" thick ceramic briquettes — hold and even out the heat, which is what keeps a 60,000 BTU grill from cooking in three hot stripes.
  • Heavy-duty stainless steel cooking grates — sit above the briquette bed for retention and searing.
  • 9V electronic ignition — housed in heat-resistant silicone for quick, reliable start-ups.
  • Seamless double-walled hood with spring assist — locks in heat and opens without being muscled.
  • Air curtain chimney design — keeps the controls cool to the touch even with the lid closed.
  • Recessed control panel — shields the chrome knobs and switches from the weather.
  • Dual-position lift-up warming rack — extra workspace and a holding shelf when you need it.
  • Built-in hood thermometer — accurate temperatures for oven-style roasting.
  • 304 stainless steel, made in the USA — built for durability and heat retention outdoors.

Model and Installation Information

This is model AAEP-32. The island opening is 30-1/2" wide by 9-1/2" high by 19-3/4" deep, while the head itself measures 31-13/16" wide, 23-1/8" high and 26-5/16" deep, so the finished face overhangs the opening on each side. Confirm all three cutout figures and the overall dimensions against the AAEP-32 spec sheet linked above, and against your island plan, before any masonry goes in or an existing opening is modified.

Natural gas and propane are separate factory configurations, ordered as AAEP-32-NG and AAEP-32-LP. The two are not interchangeable after the fact, so order the fuel type your island is plumbed for. If you want a sear zone, the ART-ISB infrared sear burner insert is interchangeable with the standard U-burners on American Eagle models and reaches up to 1,000 degrees — note that it replaces a U-burner rather than adding a position. The 14" x 24" drop-in griddle nests on top of any Artisan grill.

When you plan the gas run, work from the nominal burner rating of 60,000 BTUs — that is the sizing figure Artisan puts on its specification drawings. Artisan separately publishes a certified total rated input of 54,000 BTU/hr for the appliance as a whole, certified to ANSI Z21.58 / CSA 1.6, so both numbers are legitimate and describe different things. The BTU rating and orifice size that govern your specific grill are printed on its serial plate, which is where Artisan's care and use manual tells you to look.

Who This Model Is Best For

The AAEP-32 is the middle head in the American Eagle built-in range and the one to choose when you want three independently controlled burners in an island opening of 30-1/2". Sixty thousand BTUs across three zones covers a full family cookout with room to hold finished food on the warming rack while the next round goes on. If your framed opening is tighter, the 26" two-burner head fits where this one will not; if you regularly cook for a crowd, look at the 36". Being a drop-in head, it assumes you are building or already have a masonry island rather than cooking off a cart.

Artisan American Eagle 32" Built-In Gas Grill - 3 Burners, 60,000 BTUs, 304 Stainless Steel

Frequently Asked Questions

How many burners does the American Eagle 32 have and what is the output?

Three stainless steel U-burners at 20,000 BTUs each, for 60,000 BTUs total across the main cooking surface.

Three separately valved burners on a 32-inch grill let you run a hot zone and a holding zone at the same time instead of cooking everything at one temperature.

Does it come in natural gas or propane?

Both. The grill is offered in a propane or a natural gas configuration, and the two are not interchangeable after the fact, so order the fuel type your island is plumbed for.

What are the overall dimensions?

31 13/16 inches wide, 23 1/8 inches high and 26 5/16 inches deep. Confirm those against your island plan and against the spec sheet Artisan publishes for the AAEP-32 before any masonry goes in.

How is the heat spread across the grates?

Through a half-inch thick ceramic briquette system sitting above the U-burners. The briquettes hold heat and even it out, which is what keeps a 60,000 BTU grill from cooking in three hot stripes.

How does it light?

A 9V electronic ignition housed in heat-resistant silicone. Fully adjustable brass valves handle flame control once it is lit.

Do the control knobs get hot when the lid is down?

Artisan addresses that with an air curtain chimney design that keeps the controls cool to the touch with the hood closed, and a recessed control panel that shields the chrome knobs and switches.

What is the grill built from, and where?

304 stainless steel, made in the USA. The hood is seamless and double-walled with a spring assist, so it holds heat and does not need to be muscled open.

Can I add a sear zone or a griddle to it?

Yes. The ART-ISB infrared sear burner is interchangeable with the standard U-burners on American Eagle models and reaches up to 1,000 degrees, and the 14 by 24 drop-in griddle nests on top of any Artisan grill.

The sear insert replaces a burner rather than adding one, so you trade a U-burner position for the sear zone.
