A power burner is the piece that lets an outdoor kitchen handle the jobs a grill cannot — a full stock pot of crab or crawfish, pasta water for a crowd, a stir-fry that needs real heat under the wok. The Artisan Power Burner 18" ARTP-18PB is a built-in, drop-in unit from Artisan's Professional series that puts 55,000 BTUs across a dual burner with independent controls, so the same appliance takes a large pot to a hard boil and then holds a genuine simmer on a small sauce pan. It is built entirely from 304 stainless steel and made in the USA, in the same grade and finish Artisan uses across its grill heads and access doors, so it lines up visually in a continuous island run. Order it in natural gas or propane to match the supply already run to your island.

Key Features

  • Dual burner, 55,000 BTUs — high output for large-volume boiling, with a wide range of temperature control down to a simmer.
  • Independent controls — the two burners are operated separately, so you are not locked into one heat level across the whole cooking surface.
  • 110v electronic ignition — push-button lighting; an electrical supply is required at the burner location.
  • Removable interior circular grate — lift it out to drop a wok down into the flame for high-temperature wok cooking.
  • Down-lit knob lighting — subtle illumination that keeps the control positions readable after dark.
  • All 304 stainless steel construction — the full housing, not just the fascia.
  • Recessed top with stainless steel cover included — the stainless cover is part of the appliance and ships with it. It must be open whenever the burners are lit, and it should never be closed while the burners are in use. It is not the same item as the ART-18PBCV canvas weather cover, which is sold separately.
  • Made in the USA

ARTP-18PB Spec Sheet

ARTP-18PB Care & Use Manual

Model and Installation Information

The model number is ARTP-18PB. It is a built-in unit and requires an island opening of 16 1/2" wide by 22 3/8" deep by 9 1/4" high; the finished unit measures 18" wide by 26 1/4" deep by 10" high, and that overhang is what conceals the cut edges on all four sides. Confirm every one of those figures against the ARTP-18PB spec sheet above before the island is built or an existing opening is modified — the 22 3/8" depth in particular is deeper than many drop-in side burners require, so framing that was laid out for a standard side burner may not accept it.

The burner uses a 110v electronic ignition, so an electrical outlet needs to be part of the island rough-in at the burner location, not only a gas line.

Fuel type is chosen at the time of order, not in the field: ARTP-18PB-NG is the natural gas configuration and ARTP-18PB-LP is the propane configuration. Match the SKU to the supply already run to the island.

Two different covers come up with this burner, and they are not the same item. The stainless steel cover on the recessed top is included with the appliance and is an operating part of it: the care and use manual states that the cover must be open when lighting the burner, and that it should not be closed at any time when the burners are in use. The ART-18PBCV is a separate accessory — a high-density canvas weather cover that goes over the unit when the burner is not in use — and it is sold on its own listing, linked below. You do not need the canvas cover to operate the burner; it is there to keep weather off it in between cooks.

Who This Model Is Best For

This is the burner for someone whose outdoor cooking regularly involves a large pot rather than a small pan. At 55,000 BTUs across two independently controlled rings, the ARTP-18PB is a boiling station first — seafood boils, stock, pasta water for a party — and a wok burner second, thanks to the removable interior grate. It asks for real estate in return: an 18"-wide, 26 1/4"-deep footprint and a 110v connection. If your island only has room for a shallow drop-in and your side-burner cooking is a sauce pan and a pot of beans, a smaller side burner is the more sensible fit; if you actually boil, this is the model that does it.

Frequently Asked Questions

What cutout does the ARTP-18PB need?

Cut 16-1/2" wide by 22-3/8" deep by 9-1/4" high. Note the depth — at 22-3/8" it is deeper than the cutout many drop-in side burners take, so check your island framing before you cut.

How much counter space does it occupy?

The finished unit measures 18" wide, 26-1/4" deep and 10" high. The overhang past the cutout on all four sides is what conceals the opening edges.

How much heat does it put out?

55,000 BTUs from a dual burner with independent controls. That capacity is the difference between a side burner and a power burner — it takes a large stock pot to a boil rather than just holding a small sauce pan.

Because the two rings are controlled separately, you still get a genuine simmer at the low end.

Can I use a wok on it?

Yes. The interior circular grate is removable, which drops the wok down into the flame for high-temperature wok cooking rather than balancing it on a flat grate.

Does it need electricity?

Yes. The ARTP-18PB uses a 110v electronic ignition, so run an outlet to the burner location as part of the island rough-in.

Does a cover come with it?

A stainless steel cover is included. Keeping it on between uses keeps rain and debris out of the burner ports, which is the usual cause of uneven lighting on outdoor burners.

Is there a griddle for it?

Yes — Artisan makes the ARTP-18G griddle sized for this burner. You can find it here: 18" griddle for the ARTP-18PB.

Can I see the knobs at night?

The knobs are down-lit, so the control positions stay readable after dark without a separate work light.

Which supply does it run on?

Both configurations are available. Match it to your island supply at the time of order.

What is the housing made from?

All 304 stainless steel, made in the USA. That is the same grade used across Artisan's grill heads and doors, so finishes line up in a continuous island run.

Should I get a power burner or a side burner?

Choose the power burner if you boil large volumes — crab, crawfish, pasta water, stock. At 55,000 BTUs it roughly doubles the output of the double side burner, which runs 30,000 BTUs across two burners.

The tradeoff is width and depth: the power burner asks for a 16-1/2" by 22-3/8" opening and a 110v connection.
