It doesn't. The GP-14 sits directly on the cooking surface with no brackets and no modification, and lifts straight off when you want the full grate back.

Yes, and that is the intended setup. With the plate over one burner zone you run flat-top on one side and open grate on the other — breakfast on one half, searing on the other, from the same grill at the same time.
